The mrs got her renewal in for her Audi. its a 1.8t sport. She was with admiral who were cheapest last year, this year it's 760 odd quid. I bought her a fiesta for Christmas cos she wanted a smaller and newer car it's a 1.25 zeeetac and phoned admiral to see how much cheaper the new car would be. The quoted 740 which I thought was mental so I went onto go compare and got her insured for 300 with RAC. I just can't see the logic theses days with insurance company's

You don't need to ring them that's what the compare websites are for

I was with an unnamed well known company on a standard policy, my renewal was at least £200 more than the previous year. Every year they send you a 'we wont be beaten guarantee' meaning if you find it cheaper elsewhere they will beat it as you're such a valuble customer.

I phoned them up saying ive got a cheaper quote and wanted them to at least match it. "i'm sorry but we can't get anywhere near that price" so much for loyal customers!

Now every year I do the price comparison and end up with a new insurer each time round!

yes you do because they want your money so you tell an insurance an another one can do it cheaper so they will try and go cheaper to get your money.
and remember you have aviva, direct line + others who arnt on compare sites.

Mid term changes are always more expensive as they'll hope you won't bother leaving for the sake of a few months or lose a years NCB etc.

First year is always expensive though as you have no history so the insurance company see you as an unknown risk. Also, statistically, most drivers who are going to crash will do it in the first year!

What I found daft was getting a quote from elephant a while back, accidentally put my NCB in as 9 years and had a quote of £240. Changed it to the 12 years I actually have and the quote went up to £260-odd. WTF lol

I think it's because so many people do not bother to shop around I.e. when existing customers ring up the likely hood is that they will buy the new policy for ease and therefore the insurance companies cash in on it. I know for a fact that when you get your renewal through if you were to ring up for a new quote it would be cheaper! There really should be more regulation over the crude tactics insurance companies sues as its expensive enough!

Ive never been a loyal customer with any insurance firm because there is no benifit these days. Im currently with sureterm on a classic policy which costs me £160 for the year fully comp and i can drive other vehicles and ive got a agreed value of a grand but if the renewal goes up and its cheeper else were i will go with that. A couple of years ago i was paying £500 a year with churchill and my renewal was £1000 i hadent made a claim or modded it and i hadent got any points (that year lol) so i went looking and i still couldnt get it lower than £850
