Right I've fitted a nova GTE flywheel in the x16xe engine rally car I service, I bought the flywheel via eBay, and fitted a helix 4 paddle clutch made for the nova GTE dirert from helix,

Heres where's helps needed, I dug out a old nova GTE starter motor but its to small I.e. the cogs won't engage the flywheel its the same as the x16xe starter. Confused. I've ordered a 1988 GTE starter from the local factor so I'll wait and see if it fits. anyone else had this issue?

Not sure whether early gte's used a different flywheel?? As ive fitted the flat fly wheel on 3 16xe engines, using both nova and corsa starters, and had no problems

it might be a non gte flywheel. what diameter is it?

Well the one that's just turned up dont fit either. un sure as the cars back together minus a starter motor. Its about 40mm smaller it must be a GTE flywheel because the clutch bolted on OK. They must do two types as you say. Annoyed is a understatment

i have used an 8v flywheel on a x16xe with the x16xe starter.

No good I've just tried a x16xe starter which has 9 teeth like the GTE starter motor and it wont engage, just realise I said its 40mm smaller but you prob don't know the XE size. Opps lol

my money is on a 1400 non mpi flywheel. the clutch covers probably fit on the same bolt spacing.

All small block starters are the same both 8v and 16v, you have the wrong flywheel fitted

That's what I thought they were all the same but seems not, I'm just worried if its a 1.4 etc will it be OK?

all small block 8v carb nova engines had a smaller flywheel.

the 1.4, 1.6 8v mpi & the 1.4, 1.6 mpi had the larger diameter flywheel.

can't remember what they fitted on the 1.2 spi.

they moved the starter motor mounting point out on the larger engines, which is also why they made the f13 box.

the starter motors are the same on all of them

So you think if I order a 1.4 carbed starter motor for a nova that will fit, I might pull the box of and get the Vauxhall part number of the flywheel and get Vauxhall to check what it come off. Prob is no motor factors keep catalogue books to have a flick through its all on computer.

No the starter motor is not the issue...the 16v and 8v MPi engines have the hole for the starter further out from the block to cater for the larger flywheel fitted on these engines. You must have a smaller flywheel from a carbed 8v engine fitted hence the ring gear on the flywheel is not far enough out to engage with the starter motor

With has now' so I need a genuine GTE flywheel. That should be the same diameter as the original x16xe flywheel. I thought all small block lumps where the same well as in the starter motor hole and bolt patten. Learnt something new there then. GEARBOX OFF AGAIN. THANKS LADS

Just realised how terrible my grammar looks, new tablet auto correcting. Honest. Anyway I've sourced a flat flywheel of a cross c1.2 3cyl so will get it fitted when I get chance. Thanks for the help lads
