rear disc or drums

Hi what are people thtoughts for what would be better rear disc conversion or keep standard drums? As mine are in need of changing thanks dan

Drums, discs look pretty but that's about it, not worth the hassle and I wouldn't do it again

Stick to drums, handbrake works miles better and you dont have to worrie about a seized rear caliper everytime your car goes in for test just paint your new drums up before they go on the car even if you just paint them black so they dont go rusty

Drums, if kept in good condition and correctly adjusted they are more than adequate on a Nova with any engine.
Discs are a bit over kill. I would rather spend my money on other things

I remember my old SR. The previous owner had painted the rear drums with Hammerite but not left them to dry long enough. There was paint spider webbed inside the wheel & sprayed inside the rim lol

On my silver GSI they locked up far to easily, really not handy when late braking hard before a corner, the handbrake was pish too,

Just not worth the hassle IMO I ended up fitting a bias pedal box to adjust the braking to suit my driving which involed a fair bit of replumbing

Naff pedal feel, to much travel/to little travel, getting a good hand break can be hard,

You have to reduce the pressure so much they aren't doing anything at all

yes, go to the effort of fitting discs, then back off the braking force until they resemble drums.

time and effort well spent.

I found even at full pressure mine didn't lock up. But made the fronts so sh*t it scared me...
Spent ages setting it so they work very well.. and so the fronts work better.

wow im shocked reading this, i thought rear discs were loved by all. i read somewhere that fitting discs got rid of the spongey pedal feel sometimes associated with a nova (mine in particular) lol so what brake setup does everyone suggest to be best for power and pedal feel?

and i'd just started a thread about rear discs before reading this lol

I have standard GSI servo and master cylinder with 288 discs and callipers on the front and standard drums on the rear and the pedal is fine, and the handbrake is bloody awesome!!

My old gsi had rear discs and I ended up fitting a pedal box to get a better brake pedal, and the handbrake was crap :(

But i disagree with the naff pedal thing. My pedal is good. But i have noticed with hardcore breaking its...erm, twitchy!!!

Recently fitted a disc beam wih Astra gte calipers.

I haven't experienced any problems with locking under braking. Pedal is the same, possibly better since i bled properly , handbrake better, and I have the braking biased to the rear.

I've never had mine feel twitchy... And i've really leaned on my brakes.
