The time had come to replace my family car (currently mk4 golf gt tdi) for something bigger. Seriously considering buying a zafira gsi as I've found a late 2005 low mileage genuine car with replaced turbo local to me. Is there any common issues over that the turbo?? Rough mpg figure also what options did they come from factory??

I've previously owned one. Mine was sapphire black, Had factory Zenons, leather, cruise, nav. Very nice to drive, but mpg mid 20's. I had 2 turbo's on mine under warranty, when it went for a 3rd time i swapped to an leh turbo and modified bolt. Also had new oil pump at same time. Was fine after that.

Was it the oil pump causing the turbo to fail

i suspect so, the oil pump had flatted the sides a little. There's a concern over the oil pressure being too high for the turbo to cope with, a modified banjo bolt on the oil feed cure this iirc.

For a family bus think I'd be looking at a 1.9 diesel version almost as quick and double the mpg

True once again but my budget want stretch to the spec/mileage I'm after. My poor old golf has done over 150,000 miles and is still fresh a the day we got it on 89,000 miles! It's going to be my work hack now

its hardly rocket science.. people have been brazing up holes & redrilling them since engines were invented

Not trying to put you off but you should consider an Audi A4 B7 lol

Very well priced just now, a lot of motor for the money. Cheap enough to run too, were £300 odd fully comp and 32mpg (2.0t quattro petrol)

Just a thought :)

2.0 diesel gets a bad rep my old one had 217k on it when I flogged it and still ran fine, previous owner did over 120k in it running it on all sorts of crap and the diesel pump was fine

Granted there slow but do the job as a family bus

Hi I have a zafira gsi love the thing now.Just done the valve stem oil seals on it apart from that everything is ok.
Mpg wise i am getting mid 20's round town and around 33 on the motorway. It is good fun and surprises a few hot hatches.

Do what I did, find a clean on in the spec you want. For me I wanted the full leather. But get one with engine problem. I gave just 2k for mine so even if I spend a grand completely rebuilding the engine it will still be worth more than I paid but have a bullet proof engine.

I've had 3 Arden Blue ones, they are fantastic cars and alot of car for the money. Very practical and superb to drive, both on the motorway and around town.

The last one I had was a facelift type,it was fully loaded... it had xenons, twin sunroofs, full leather, parking sensors, climate control etc as well as loads of Irmscher parts, regret selling it tbh...

I'd get one with a good spec if I was you.

Turbos and driveshafts are prone to going if driven hard alot of the time.
Apart from that, they are great :thumb:

That's a really nice example mate, loaded with extras. Been and looked at a black and blue today- both comarding good money! Black one was a dog a blue too expensive-made a naughty offer well below the asking price but no joy. The search continues!
