dizzy timing : advance / retard : clock / anti-clock

i need a memory refresher from someone please, its been a while since ive had to do this.

i need to retard the ignition a tad.
am i right in thinking i need to turn the dizzy anti-clockwise (towards the radiator) for this ? .. and obviously clockwise, the opposite, towards the back of the engine to advance ?

its normally done with a strobe light so i dont pay attention to what way i turn it. However, thinking about engine rotation:

towards the radiator would be retarding
towards the bulkhead would be advancing

you also need a timing light and some tipex if your even thinking about touching it.

remember the factory/haynes figures were for leaded fuel, so will need retarding a touch to get right

yeah, thats what i was thinking mowgli - i think it should be knocked back 3 degrees to 7 instead of 10 - 1300 8v

ive got everything bar the tipex, meritlover - would help, i cant see alot down there
