Anybody on here into this? :wtf:

I've had a thought today of getting all my old stuff out of the attic and seeing if it still works and try and make a massive track in my garage lol sad i know but it'll give me something to do. When i was a kid me and my brother had LOADS of the stuff, was the vintage type (must be at least 40 years old now). I havnt touched it in about 15 years, hopefully most of it still works.

Quick question before i start getting hooked onto the forums, which types of tracks fits eachother? Ebay has plenty of 'vintage' tracks which from memory look the same as the stuff that i have, but are the 60s/70s/80s stuff different from eachother? I'll be wanting to buy some new cars but im guessing i can only get the old types? :(

If anybody has their own set-up then it would be good to see. I'll be getting my stuff out tomorrow hopefully and go from there. Would love to make a permanent track with trees, stands and stuff but i'll lose my garage Lol, but i at least when to set it all up and see if it's just as much fun as it used to be.

Probably talking to myself here as you won't be into scalextric anymore but would be cool if somebody else was :d

vintage was all interchangeable til sport came out, after that, christ knows lol
But all the cars work on all the tracks.

That's good to hear then. I've just gone onto a forum and getting crazy ideas now lol the tracks they have are incredible and look so real! If all my stuff works i can see me doing some paper mache ****! Maybe this is something i shouldnt of looked into haha

Its the reason i dont go onto the forums. It will take over my life lol
Just got my son his 1st for xmas.
Im going mental when him and my daughter crash them and drive them on the carpet.Find myself asking them if they understand what this is doing to them haha

I've gone too far looking now to stop lol

It was actually my mate from work who said he just bought his son one and that's what reminded me about mine. Would be ace to have a kid and teach them how to use it, or how not to crash! But i'll just have to entertain myself with it Lol.

Just seen this example. Looks alot simplier than the others posted and is a vintage set-up. Can't see it being too hard to do something similar. Ebay is full of stuff and sells for next to nothing now.

When I was about 10 I built a permanent layout but I haven't looked at it in a while. The newer Scalextric 'Sport' track has different fittings but you can get a converter pack which allows you run new and old track. SCX still uses the old style Scalextric track.

Here some pics of the track I built, went for the rally style. :)

Great pics danny, looks very full lol and alot of fun! Think that's the best bit about the stuff, taking pics to try and make it look as real as poss. Somebody has done a snow one and looks amazing. Think i'll be limited with what i can do with the old tracks though as they're much bigger pieces. Il make a lay-out tomorrow hopefully and see what i can do with it, easiest would be to copy an F1 circuit, but a rally one would be extra special imo.

Yea It does look a bit too much now when I look at lol, but it was great fun. Just don't do what I done a build it where the sun gets in as the plastic track warps.

Here is a track I always liked:

No sun ever enters my cave lol

Love that track. I need to find some examples of vintage tracks and must be tarmac settings really. Ill see which of my pieces work and then design a track from there. They all seem to use a program to design it, probably so the lengths are equal.

lol

Yea you can get a Scalextric track designer on a CD, that's how I done mine.Have a look on fleabay for it, its not that dear from what I remember.

I found that the more modern cars didn't like my old track, they were getting caught on the joins at times, probably the magnets sticking the cars to the track was the problem, happily my old school cars are pre magnet so worked fine and ment you actually had to have some skill to keep them on the track, here was my temp track from last year

That looks fun bazil, loving the cars aswell. Just had a quick look and the new cars look ace, hopefully they will work ok. I take it i want 1:32 scale as that's what they all seem to be?

Danny, i'll be doing that if and when i build a proper track :)

christ, that reminds me of xmas a few years back when my nephew got scalextric truck racing... my dad & i were rather pissed & the trucks really weren't staying on the track, they were front heavy. so we rooted thru his toy car boxes, found 2 corgi artic trailers & were caught by his mum racing 2 artics at seriously impressive speeds round her front room...

Just mind the new digital cars don't work on old track, you can get a converter to join your old track to digital stuff I think, one of the joff's is big with this stuff too,

That's ace. Reminds me of the time my parents went on holiday and left me and my brother on our own for the first time, we set a track up around the whole house lol

Shame about the cars not running on the old stuff :( il look into it more when the time comes to it.

Im sure you still get ones that run on old track, I bought a 6R4 and S1 Sport recently and they were not digital cars

Bazil, i've seen some nice cars (porsche gt3s :wtf:) on ebay which are advertised as analog. I take it they are the right ones then?

bazil
29-12-12, 11:59 PM
Yeah should be mate, Digital allows more than one car to use each lane so you can have upto 6 cars racing and swapping lanes to overtake,

Those digital cars have chips inside them to allow them to be controlled individually.

The old anolouge cars don't have that. The Audi and Metro in my pics have some speed in them too, think they have brushless motors which are a huge improvement over older generation cars,

Just remember that with old track the longer it is the more of a power drop you get at the furthest away point, so take time to clean the track connections for better continuity,

Some folk use this on perminent tracks to improve track performance

eBay # 110894630035

You have a mighty selection of track, Bazil approves lol

L33 LEG
30-12-12, 01:56 PM
I was thinking that after i did it lol I'll get them cleaned up as new so hopefully it'll be ok.

Im having trouble finding a car though. Ebay is full of the autoart cars which look ace but apparantly dont drive very good! There doesnt seem to be much more for sale to chose from, only wanting to spend around £20 just to get a feel for it, later on i'll get some proper cars.

brainsnova
30-12-12, 02:28 PM
I'm sure on a big track I used 2 power packs

L33 LEG
30-12-12, 02:35 PM
I have a few packs so i'll ask my dad to see if he used to do that when he played with it or if it's possible.

The Revell cars are quite good too and have official rights to copy the actuall cars too so they look spot on, as this Audi shows :)

The Metro is made by MSC and as you can see on the underside it catches the track quite badly, the metro was new and never had been used, I fixed that very quickly lol but was annoyed that the £50 car was getting damaged.

Another issue with some cars is the slot guide is too deep and can catch in the slot at joins, I have put a picture up of the metro guide ( red ) compared to the Focus WRC car made by SCX and you can see a difference in guide depth, nothing a quick file cans sort out :)

I do like to see a nice track, I'm slowly building my collection of groupB rally cars :)

Some of the tracks on YouTube are awesome and the on board footage is just mental to watch, the cars handle like there on rails lol

L33 LEG
30-12-12, 03:01 PM
Never thought of on board cameras, that would be ace :D i'll play it safe and do a normal track lay out. Would love to build my own from scratch and do a rally track with loads of detail but think it's best to do an easier one first.

bazil

I'd love to get my track back out in the spare room but I pulled half the kitchen roof down last night as I'm planning to extend the kitchen,so best work on that rather than play with my toys, the wife may get a touch mental if she came home from work and I'm playing with my toys lollol

Mind you she does love a good race, the Richard Burns Subaru is her's :)

I have promised my 9 year old that in the new year we would clear all the crap out the study (great big insulated shed in the garden) and set up a scalextric track and railway track.

Got tons, absolutely tons of the stuff as I have got the only grandchild in the family so inherited all my dads and uncles track, plus my brother is not interested so got all the stuff we had as kids plus Jordan now has his own set!
