Does anyone know where I can buy a good quality tool to remove the camshaft of and 8v engine not sure if the tool is the same for 16v heads :/

just use a 2 or 3 legged puller or give it a few gentle taps. the pulley sits on a boss and is located with a dowel. its likely just slightly corroded and stiff.

are you on about the thingy that depresses the hyd lifters?

Im not actually sure if im honest my boss has just told me I need the tool to extract the cam out the head so we can change the cam followers

mowgli is correct.

to be fair. its cheaper to replace the bolts and gaskets than to track down and buy/rent the tool.

Theres a tool listed on ebay for £9 but it says you need 8 tools to complete the job and if was to purchase these surely i could make money on foreigners and garage work ??

laser tools list one, as do draper.

you can get them undone by simply applying a large enough weight to the top of the follower.

as with ML's post, is it something you are planning to do on a regular basis?? as in competition use? or a one off?? if its a one off, then i've undone the bolts, removed the cam carrier & refitted it with new bolts without disturbing the head gasket & not had any problems.

its your call then.
£72 buys a good few bolt sets and gaskets.....

Either way im looking at £80 so ill just replace bolts and gaskets unless I can find someone to borrow the tool off :)

You can get away with two tools and keep moving them about to suit the lobes you are trying to pass.

i would do the same. justify it be doing a de coke, grind in the valves and take the edge off the back of the valve seats.

surely you could redneck it by draining the oil, removing the plugs & manually turning the engine over till the oil is pushed out.... partial lol

this is what you want you can remove all the rockers one by one then slide the cam out
Just changed mine on my 1.4 cam out and new one in in just under 1 hr not bad for a £10

that seems reasonable if you are prepared to do them one at a time. might be the way to go for you

£10 is nothing compared with the work to remove the head.

no £10 isnt but £72 was.

tbh, an offcut of steel, an m10 bolt & nut, with a couple of drill bits & 2 rocker cover bolts would make one in a few minutes

if all you are doing is replacing the followers then that laser tool is just the job, leave the cam in place and do one at a time ( only one tool needed), just rotate the cam as stuart said to get the lobes out of the way. i replaced all my lifters the same way, its a bit fiddily but once you`ve done one you get the hang of it and it only took me about half an hour to do all eight
