should novas have a sh1t guard where steering arm goes through?

hi, im sure thinking back 11 yr my very first car (nova) had rubber sh1t guards where the steering arm goes through the chassis leg, never seen them on any of my novas ive had since, are they still available? ive just trauled through epc and cant find them or a part number anywhere, not even sure what they should be called??

i would imagine its a gaiter of some sort. the holes in the penetration of the chassis leg do suggest rivets or self tappers may be fitted. it was rumered that it was for scandinavian models but i have never seen one fitted with my own eyes (or anyone elses for that matter).

I know my first nova had them, i remember them for some reason, they where indeed held by rubber studs into those holes you see, held onto the steering arm too.
didnt know anything about cars or novas back then, not much has changed i suppose.

makes you wonder what the design intent was. its prety pointless unless theres a full undertray fitter. what were the gaurds keeping clean? the engine from the road, or the brakes from the engine?

reason i want them is to stop tyre smoke getting into the engine bay which then quickly enters the car, and to help protect timing belt and pulleys as im not running a casing

guards on the steering arms won't do a thing anyway to stop smell.

i have to agree with meritlover... stop wheelspinning & if its rubbing the arches, raise it up or fit smaller tyres.

I think I have seen them before. Not sure it was on a Nova, but they were the style that has been mentioned.

It wouldn't have been on a mk2 Astra either. Novas aside, I don't dirty my hands with this inferior marque. :)

tyre smoke and rubber isnt because im an asbo'd chav, car is used mainly on the drag strip, and the bonnet chock is because my engine is too tall not because it looks cool, im fitting a taller rubber along the firewall to try and seal the gap from bonnet to firewall too.

I know these exist but just thought it was me who had never seen them since my first car.

I had them on one of mine, can't remember if it was a Mk1 SR it a Late 1.2 though, one of my first Nova's. The Y reg however didn't have any when I got it.

as its more for the strip, you should get something like lorry curtainside material, and overlap a slit in it. its light & you are most likely not needing to keep crap out of the bay, just tyre smoke.

i cant imagine it being hard to make something, but if i could find simple press on pre made items that would have been easier.
the car i had with them on was a mk2 1.2 spin.
