View Full Version : Colin McRae sport?
Just wondered after a convo on FB with a mate (and google only turns up images of the corgi model of it) where actually is it now, is it in the heritage center?
As far as im aware its in a McRae private collection, along with his other rally cars.
One of his Subaru 555 impreza's is in the transport museum in Glasgow, on a plint so you can see underneath, spent ages looking round it!

I think the original car is no more. Jason Lepley Motorsport, a dealer based in Notts broke the car back in the late 90's/early 00's. I remember one of my friends buying the exhaust from it. I enquired about the ID a couple of years after and he said he had sold it, so somebody may still have the logbook.

there is a boy building a mcrae rep nova think he is going to rally it ive got him on fb
I was considering getting decals done like that to do a replica with my Sport
No sure tho?
I would need different wheels for a start
I've been contemplating making my A reg into a replica. I know it'd take time & money but it'd be so worth it...
the original mcrae sport went thru hell.. it was on its roof a few times, i actually saw it back in the 80's at the NEC motor show on a trade stand & it had quite some battle scars too
oh, and it was an sr that they eventually converted to sport spec. when the sport kit was homologated

Maybe come new year time ey...
Ive seen pics of the nova that wears the reg number A681 DNT, in a museum, i know the original car is fooked and dead and got reshelled, but where is the museum this car is currently in, i thought it mightve been in the heritage center?

Nothing to do with the heirtage centre, im sure its to do with the McRae family. They have either genuine or replicas of all his old rally cars.

Think your right about that,i'm sure i saw a video from years ago on youtube filmed at his house and a nova was in that film.

You've got the right reg but wrong owner, DNT was hockleys nova

was told by a man who should know, that colins mechanic back in the day had to make up a special tool to allow him to change the full set of hydraulic lifters in the 1300 nova at EVERY service as they were being pushed beyond their limits and often stuck closed! he also said that the nova needed a new shell every few events as colin would tear the floors out of them so badly. would love to be able to wring a cars neck like that, id also love not having to worry about it too!!

You sure, says Colin McRae on the wing of the car wearing that reg in all of the google pics :p
Well I was at that event in 1985 in Achray Forrest, the Scottish international. Lead car for most of the event was Michelle mouton in her works Quattro but she retires and Malcolm Wilson won the event in a quattro, the second hockley nova was driven by Andrew Wood iirc, McRae senior was driving his manta as we're Bertie Fisher and Russrl Brooks, there were a couple of 205 T16's entered too and the rothmans Porsche 911's too
Maybe Colin bought the car in later years but in 1985 the car was Hockleys, lol

Just checked my hockley model nova and the reg is A449 PGS :p
spud, it was a small community of gm dealer sport 'works' drivers... jimmy was one & no doubt opened a few doors to get the best stuff for colin.. and HH did build rather good 1300 rally cars.
Which means?
Every event my dad and I went to we got an entry list, my dad would take all the pictures and once we had them developed we would look through them and write on the back of them the driver and co-drivers names and the class they were in,
If I have got this wrong then i put my hands up but I'm pretty sure I'm right,
Well the two pics youve posted, theyre both wearing what seems to be Hockly's livery, so youre probably correct in fairness lol

you are right, colin wasnt in the nova till 87, so if thats 85 its def not him! and i have seen the hockly pics with the same reg previously. random prints appear on ebay from time to time.
I would need to look at the actuall photo to see the reg on this one but I'm sure it was the the other hockly nova

It was Hockley's car to start, which changed from a Y reg originally then was passed on to Colin
Interesting stuff.
If it kept getting reshelled why keep the same ID for years?

Logbooked ID? Probably easier to reshell than get a whole new car logbooked & re-inspected etc
True, I forget there was a time when you could just buy a new shell off the shelf, much easier/cheaper than stripping a full car.

Can't for the life of me think what the reg number of the 'Y' reg on was. I think it was something like ?BM ???Y.

That looks similar to my model nova

Maybe they used that reg on the model because it was famous?
Good thread
Ive got a set of FISA homologation papers for a Nova somewhere. Y reg I think. Sure its a 1.2 though.

Possibly, might be why they moved to DNT as that was an SR. It was later fitted with the Sport kit once the kit was homologated by the Sport.
The Sport was actually an evolution of the already homologated Swing model, not the SR

This is what Ive got the papers for!
