where Ive painted my slam panel the bonnet catch touched it (barley ) and its chipped/marked all the paint, now I'm sure the paint shouldn't come off that easy so what have i done wrong?

not prepped it enough or something  i haven't put any lacquer on it yet is that the problem, what should i do now rub it down with a scotch pad and repaint it the same and be more carefull? i dont want to have to retouch up the paint every 10 miles so any help would be great

Have you done it in a lockup or a warm garage at home? I would rub the chips back with sand paper till smooth and then scotch, also how did you do it? I.e did you put several thin coats on or a few thick coats? When i refurbed my wheels i used a etch primer and done 10 thin coats of paint and 4 tbin coats of laquor and they seem to be doing well against the elements.

Arears like that will allways chip. But the less layers of paint the better. 2-3 coats of base is enough.

Background story, remember the mayener (sp) built cars from max power? One was a Rover 75 all airbrushed and kitted.. it had 25 coats of lacquer on it, which you could snap off in lumps when chipped...

well im removing the locking stuff as its going to be held on with pins, but im wondering if its going to be worth putting some padding on the underside of the bonnet to stop it damaging the paint

I find that making a home paintjob from a rattle can more durable is to just do a light dusting over, sometimes less is more and i spent 2 days spraying my wheels so dont rush it plus this time of year all the moisture in the air isnt good for spraying anyway

well seems as i barley do anything to it during the week i supose i can rub it down, give it a coat a night and chuck a electric heater in the garage to help it dry properly

I heated my rims up with a hairdryer so the paint dryed quicker and left it 2hr before adding another coat
