why in my mates 1.4 sri nova is the engine coolant water a brown colour? is it a dodgy head gasket leaking oil? or is it just old and needs changing nothing major?

may be head gasket, may be just dirt. drain the coolent, refill it and see if it does it again

iv got a load in mine but its due to the heat. with the weather being hot the water has been getting hotter than usualy and got all the crap out the radiator. just needs flushing and refilling

aye is usually a sign that the previous owner has not changed the coolant often enough or is too weak. its basically rusty water from block/rad/matrix etc. flush it out with a hosepipe and get some coolant/water in there.

or it could be radweld

Can't seem to keep the Landy's water clean, as I noticed when it boiled over the other day in the heat.

I Don't thinks a serious problem, at least I hope not
