Right ive been looking at various engine conversions, i did have a early xe motor and sold it to buy my nova, ive thought about buying another xe a let is out of my budget and my mate has got a sri motor with full loom but ive nust done a search on ebay for a nova engine and this saab engine with gearbox, ecu and loom jumped out at me, altho is has been done by plenty of people into different vauxhalls its still seems uncommon in a nova, is there a reason for this or is it a hard conversion any help would be apreciated.

It's a lot more complex to fit as the engine is longer so all the drivers side chassis leg needs to be cut out and re fabricated to make the engine fit. But it does all bolt in easily in a mk3 Astra.

I dont mind grinding and welding im more on about the wireing, is it complex and can i fit a vauxhall gearbox to it?

Yes you can use a F20 or F28. Just need the right bell housing bit. Wiring wont be any harder than a xe in to a Nova really...

This shows how much work you'd have to do to put it in a mk2 Astra. It would be similar for the nova, only less room

Im wanti g to use a f20 box and how would i change the bellhousing, the saab motor comes with a box but i think its hydro clutch

F20 bolts straight on :)
And there's a guy on migweb that can remove the immobilizer on the ecu and remap it if needed ;)

F20 can run a hydo clutch iirc too.

re the fitting of this engine/box..

if you alter the xe mounts on the gearbox to move it slightly to the left, you should make some room.. the driveshafts will need custom making to length, but with that sort of power, decent shafts will be needed anyway.

I will be taking my time with it anyway, im going to clean and pai t the engine and box, do all the loom mods as i want to run a digi dash and once ive payed the majority of my credit card off use it to buy another nova to do the conversion on. And is there anyway i can use the standard nova engine mount on the shell as most of the pics in that link have vanished

its only cutting & welding metal.. a bit of fabbing to get the engine in correctly on top of the strengthening of the shell won't cost much more.

Ive borrowed a template that a mate made from a chris astley streanthening kit so there is a bit of a saving and was thinking of making a mount on the front of the engine were the pumps would of been once i removed them
