Anyone done any of this on their cars? I have bought a second hand fibreglass bonnet and rubbed it all down and painted it and im not happy with the out come so iv bought a carbon fibre:roll: wrap for it. Im not usually a fan of these types of styling but im willing to give it ago as mines a go-er not a look-er lol im tempted to do some fibreglass wings in the same stuff when i get them. Any hints tips advice pictures appreciated! :thumb:

It show imperfections in the bodywork as badly (if not worse) than paint does.

You need a heat gun if going round compound curves or corners. The process is simple though hence every man and his dog doing it from a van lol

It's easy on the YouTube vids because they use the air channeled vinyl lol

I don't my nova in the carbon wrap, paint hast to be quite good underneath, it shows up any marks there, I use the air channeled wrap. It's easy to do, my first time ever using it I done the full car, it stretche around most things but getting it down the recesses in the quarters around the windows is impossible,

There is a new(ish) paint called 'plastidip' which has similar effects to a vinyl wrap, but it is a LOT cheaper and is easily removable.
The video below is a good example of what plastidip does/is. It is possible to 'dip' a whole car, and theres a few places in the UK that will do it for you ;)

As said you will have to make sure the bonnet is perfectly smooth or else it'll show up really bad. As for fitting the vinyl, i've never done it but it looks dead easy tbh lol just heat and stretch and when you find a crease, just pull it off and try again. It's something that i would try and do myself.

My mate mentioned Plastidip to me months ago. I have never looked into it until now.

My worry would be that someone would peel it off. lol

Looked like he was gonna make a right mess of the Nissan badge at first!

yeah i guess with the plastidip; doing your whole car does have its risks, but smaller parts should be ok..

I wrapped my own car. I got a hair under the vinyl and it shows that through. Its easy to work with but you just need to balance the heat. 2 years on driven daily and it still looks good.

Doing mine was a first attempt. My mate had wrapped a few small trim bits in the past but we did it between 3 of us over 2 days. Alot of the time was spend removing as many parts as possible to get the best finish to the panels and it saved having to trim with knifes around every edge. It's far from perfect but then every wrap I have seen has had flaws. I always compare my DIY job to the pro's and it's pretty close.

My tips would be make sure the panel is super clean. Use a proper surface panel wipe as recommended by the manufacturer of the vynil.
Make sure you work indoors in the warm with as little dust as possible.
Get a proper heat gun as you will be using it alot.
Get the proper felt covered squeegee tools as rubber or plastic ones will scratch the vynil as your pushing bubbles out.

Few pics.

That looks really good for vinyl tbh, in pictures at least, I always throught it was a respray.

I saw a wrapped Aventador the other month, even the guys from Pagani thought it was a respray lol Mind you that wrap probably cost more than £10K
