needs service pack 2 to fix

never used winupdate so only has basic....

any ideas?

yer man, it really got on my tits! coz i didnt realise it was a virus for about a day, my pc jus kept restartin but wasnt sayin y, jus sayin about the RPC and im not very good with pooters so i didnt know wot the hell that was, n then about 2 days later norton decided to show its face and tell me i had a blaster worm! i was like "oh the joys of a worm" so i had to get my compture technical uncle round another day later to sort it out! kuh! y isnt n e thing simple these days?

yeah i had this virus too :evil:

switched on my firewall on my virus software and then downloaded the patch.

It seems to be working fine now, but I'm not sure whether to keep the firewall up for a while at least, just in case....!!??

I've never used it but how do you rate this Dicko? AVG's free anti-virus, they seem to update the definitions regularly

as i said on MIG its a pile of pap but better than nothing. if you get a hardcore virus such as klez/elkern worm based tha virus will have spwaned by the time its picked it up.

also if you install AVG then remove it you can wave bye bye to using any pop3 mail unless ur familiar with setings in outlook.

yes they keep it upto date but the way it scans isnt upto much so new viruses can still evade it.

i got elkern.4xxx AVG insisted there was no virus even with latest update. scanned it with norton off my laptop and it WAS infected. the virus had infected the AVG process :x

I reckon AVG is good, got plenty of mates who use it and installed it on a few machines for people over the time. None of 'em have had any problems and MANY MANY people now rate it higher than Norton AV.

Can't hurt to try it out, everyones PC's different and what works on one might not work on another as plenty of us have seen :D

yes as i said its very good seen as its free. stops probly 80% of 'known' viruses

Well a lot of people are saying it's better than many pay to use scanners including Norton AV so... it's as good as anything out there IMO. Does the trick for me, uses naff all ram, works flawlessly and scans quickly.

I've only ever caught 2 virus' and it picked it up instantly - I've been using it for about 2 yrs and find it better than Norton AV :)

What free firewalls do people recommend? I use Tiny Personal Firewall at the mo. Small, simple and seems to be bloody good.

put a harsh virus such as klez or elkern 4xxx on your comp and see how avg responds. pops up about 200 windows as the virus spawns rather than blocking it!

i tried installin a fix for it and didnt work coz he aint got service pack 2 installed....

2 install service pack 2 u need 2 go on the windows update site

cant go on windows update site coz virus deny's acces 2 it!

cant install norton 2003 coz it says:" can not install because u have a virus"

so any ideas?

yup had many reports on the tech forums that peoples computer 'hang' or reset randomly after putting sp4 on!!
