urgently required:
rear stub axle for 91 sr nova. passenger side. - ben or co? i need it posted and u to trust me ill send money - ask dave (nova-x) he trusted me with some bits!!!
story is this:
rear passenger side wheel bearing has COMPLETELY failed.
when driving it feels like the four wheel bolts were undone and the wheel slopping about all over the place.
took hub off today - will get some pics up l8a
basically outer bearing is non existant. rollers from it are rattling around my hub and the outside bit of it (bearing race?) is knurled and welded around the stub axle
thread on stub axle is shot as the hub has been riding on it. it is non existant also.
wheel has been held on by my split pin!!!!!!!!!

this hapened to me once. bearing collapsed on the M1
usualy due to them being over tightened!!
got a new axel stub from vaux for ?55.
when you fit the 4 bolts that hold the axel stub in make sure you use some loctite!!
nasty mike. i had a ball joint break in a gte a few years back. luckily i was going slow at the time as the front corner of the car just collapsed!!

should be on the road for saturday - waiting for my nice next door neighbour who works at car spares to bring me new wheel bearings in :D ?32 a side they want at vauxhall, or free if there off the shelf ;)
That is definately a shagged bearing!
Unlucky. :(
At least they are an easy job to do and you can clean and adjust the rear brakes at the same time :)
Like the man said, use loctite Mike. and torque them up to the correct value too.
And dont over tighten the bearings just a small amount of free play should be felt.
But im sure you know that allready :)

:D thanks for your replys
right stub axles sorted etc but by the time next door neighbour came home i had to go safeways to work.
now then.
fitting bearings 2moro.
RE brakes:
what should i adjust? they have the self adjuster thingys. at one time when my mechanic fitted my front discs and pads, handbrake would only come on one click. but lately it has taken three clicks. what shall i adjust to remedy this?
The self adjusters never really work properly.
You should have between three and five clicks on the Nova handbrake, any less and youll probably be binding on the rear brakes especially as you go over bumps and the rear axle drops as it pulls on the cables.
Clean all the brakes up and put the drum back on. You should just hear the shoes touching the surface of the drum as you spin it on the stub axle. But not actually binding (over adjust em and they will overheat).
If they are miles out flick the toothed wheel on the adjuster so the shoes come out a bit then try again. Its also a good idea to de adjust the handbrake linkage first before adjusting the rear brakes the re adjust afterwards when ur happy.
Good luck
