View Full Version : Smooth nova
Thought i would start a build thread. Ive tried a couple of times over the last week but photobucket and internet explorer dont seam to get along on my computer. Anyway this is 3rd time lucky.
Ive had the car for around 4 or 5 years now, and got lucky when a mate rescued it from the scrap yard and offered it me for £100. Here are the only 2 photos i can find of it from back then.

I decided that this build, my 5th, would be hopefully my best, and consist of everything i think a nova should look like and also what would test my skills build wise. This has been built pretty much by myself, with the exception of my mates lending there expert help here and there. Anyway i dont have a great photo history of the build, but i'll show what i do have, then hopefully continue to update with progress as and when.
My initial plan was to have it as low as possible, this would later become a problem. Anyway i purchased some mk2 escort turrets and welded them into place.

Having built a number of cars (mainly novas) the only work i had never done was spray painting. This was something i would try and considering this is the 1 car i have done bodywork/paint on im pretty happy. I have learnt a lot whilst doing so and that was my main aim. Here are the pics of it at different stages of paint.
New wings so i could change from mk2 to mk1

My plan for the car was always going to be a 2.0 16v on r1 carbs. Mainly because i had the engine already but also because there probably the best looking engine. Also on the agenda was to make the bay as clean, simple and smooth as possible. Having taken inspiration from the vag scene here i had no idea how hard it would be to achieve. Hours and hours of welding and smoothing were put into the bay, as i wanted as little filler in there as possible. Im pretty happy with how it turned out, in the end i had to paint it a second time to get it better but as i wanted the car done this would have to do.
Here are a couple of pictures of my 1st attempt. This was never going to be good enough though.

After that, it was a case of building it up and getting it running and ready for racing.

My main problem with this was that the car wasnt road legal so i was unable to do any road testing. My 1st outing was to santa pod where i blew the clutch up on the 1st run. These things happen tho and i didnt let that put me off.

I have a few videos of curbourgh and santa pod but im not sure how to get them from facebook yet.
Anyway fast forward to now and the cars been built for about a year and raced a few times since. I have decided that there are a number of jobs which need doing, and also a number of jobs which probably dont but will be 'cause this is my passion.
Ive made and fitted some perspex windows (thany you work)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/AF0077B4.jpg
I have fitted a quaife quick rack, however i havent any photos of that (quite a boring job)
I have modified the rocker cover

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/8A9D68AC.jpg
I have stripped the interior out ready for painting again.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/8CE1C26D.jpg
I have aso decided i want to add a corsa c power steering column. Here are a few pics of that fitted.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/B8697902.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/03CA7E63.jpg
I have decided on black interior. Hopefully this will be smart enough to not require much in the form of interior trim. First job was to paint the roof. Im pretty chuffed with how it turned out considering the time (or lack of!) that i spent prepping it, and also how poor my effor was in refitting my roof lining last time.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/A78C3E8D.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/DA12A041.jpg
Anyway while i wait for paint supplies and parts thats how ive left the interior for now.
I then moved on to the engine bay, although im really happy with the majority of it, there were a few bits i wanted to change to further add to the smooth look.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/D1579192.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/C368CF23.jpg
Bit of fiberglass filler
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/3C955C7F.jpg
And thats pretty much how i left it tonight
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/BE97D9A7.jpg
Hope you all like it, and hopefully it will be finished and ready for the new year. Got quite a few races planned.

About time more pics came up of this. Love it, bay looks fantastic. Great work.
What are you doing about the wiper motor?

Cheers. Means alot coming from you considering your nova was alot of inspiration!
Not sure about the wiper motor, my original idea looked a bit gash. Thats why i have now chopped it off. Ive kinda just over looked it at, why? Have you got an amazing solution???
I considered the zx wiper but ive been thinking that i could mountbthe motor and make it sweep without the zx bracket
Thank you very much. Really nice too hear that :) And no lol i haven't, I've tried a few and never been happy with any of them. I just use alot of rain-x.
I just use alot of rain-x.
Win!
Got an early start on the car yesterday.Made some progress with the interior and fitted my seat.
Chopped original seat rails out andplated the hole
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/966600DF.jpg
Then made a new seat frame
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/5FFE95B6.jpg
Then welded it in place

Test fit of seat
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/71BC23F6.jpg
Then welded in the eye bolts for theharness in place

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/51E9427A.jpg
Then finally fitted it all back in
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/D72EB2A7.jpg
Been looking at the angle my rod armsare at too. Unsure whether to reposition the rack higher.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/A2F0AF82.jpg
Anyone thoughts? Pros and cons?
Cheers ben
I'd look at swapping them to run on the bottom of the hub rather than the top. Bit easier than moving the rack.
Novasport

Or a LHD rack flipped over maybe?!?
That wouldn't work^ Steering bit would be in the wrong place...?
Novasport
09-12-12, 11:29 AM
Should do, flip the rack 180 degrees horizontally and it will put the pinion on the correct side but under the rack so you could mount it higher without having to raise the column.
Probably easier to move the track rod ends, was just thinking out loud
Oh, i sat here trying to work it out and didn't think it would..lol
Ok so its been a while since i posted an update. Managed to get a few more jobs done over xmas, so heres a few photos of some of my progress.
Got a thick coat of stone chip down on the floor, hoping it will help with general wear and it makes it look a little neater.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/38B6FB9B.jpg
Then i got the rest of the interior painted black.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/942B66E2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/29085B54.jpg
Also painted my epas column while i was at it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/8B51D450.jpg
Once i got my dash back in, i needed to look at re wiring everything as i wasnt happy. Nightmare!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/0222F6FB.jpg
i am slowly making progress with this tho, which is a bonus.
finally the last of my guages turned up to i got that fitted.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/E2E5E31C.jpg
Finally did a bit more smoothing on the engine bay.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/832167AB.jpg
And a bit of etch primer
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/1A3ADDAE.jpg
tomorrow i will be looking at how to make a wiper motor fit and work without looking gash!
Use a corsa one. They tuck up under the scuttle nicely

I dont mean to burst your bubble but if you are going to mot the car ive heard that the front seats have to slide fwd and back or it it a load of horse p155?

that might be a problem, might have to sweet talk my friendly mot man!
the cars a track car anyway so if thats the case then its not the end of the world, just think it would be handy for tesing and shakedowns to have it on the road

I think its only come in this year tbh, ive fitted a corsa c wiper mech before and the motor mounts u der the scuttle and how do you fit corsa epas?
got any pics or the wiper motor in situ?
i chopped the bracket off the nova coloumn, flipped the corsa column 180 and welded it in place, had to do away with the ignition barrel tho as this fouled the dash. got an adjustment box for the control off ebay, pretty simple 2 wire up, just power and earth.
chrisd1986
04-01-13, 01:13 AM
I would want to keep the ignition barrel with steering lock

This is brilliant :)
Looking good, dash looks purposeful with all those gauges in. Feel free to have a nosy at how I mounted the Citroen wiper setup on mine, it's reasonably compact and hidden.

that would be helpful!
Well in the intrest of moving things along, i decided to just go for it and make a wiper work some how. after trying a number of different combos with the nova motor and various linkage setups i'd all but given up, figuring i would have to source another option. then i had a brain wave!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/F8C624BF.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/B366D30A.jpg
anyway im pretty happy with it, will make up a plate to cover it all up. best of all, mymate kindly donated it. by the way, its a rear wiper motor in case your wondering!
once that was sorted, i moved on to finishing the bay ready for paint, covered all the bits i dont want smooth with gravitex. makes life simple and easy when it comes to finish and its pretty hard wearing.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/E8296B34.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/22A1DFE4.jpg
also did a bit more wiring but i didnt take photos of that cause its terribly boring.
and finally, i got a photo from my mate to say my part had arrived!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/F460F226.jpg
so hopefully thats everything i need to fit my diff!
thats all for now. enjoy

any pics available?
I use a Corsa B one, you need to extend the bars that hold everything and the spindles are at the wrong angle for a nova screen, so the wipe is crap on the drivers side...
Edit having seen the post above, liking what you've done there. Custom mount? Not sure on the gravitex in the bay thru dude.

Actually ive just welded a little bit on to the original bootlid mount, and then drilled a small hole in the scuttle. I'll get some more pics of it when i go back tomorow.
Im not mad on the gravitex but its easy and its mainly on places where ya cant see and ontop of the bulkhead where im a bogger for chuckin tools when im working so hopefully it will help protect it abit. We'll see how it lools once its painted. If i dont like it then ill rub it all back next winter. I need to get it finished ready for show season now!
Please on the pics. Will you be at the summer shows then? As i'd like to see the car.

I lost weeks of my life trying to find a good wiper solution and also welding and smoothing the dam bulkhead! I'm crap with filler which didn't help! Actually gave myself carpal tunnel doing it! lmao So no way I was gonna bother doing the inner wings too!
Keep up the good work dude!

Lovely work mate. It's going to be a stunner. :d
I don't mean to be picky, but that rear wiper motor... Have you checked if it will give you full sweep? Also, surely it will only have one (slow) speed?
Just thought it was worth mentioning, incase you have somehow overlooked it.

I saw a Golf a few years back that had some very trick smoothed over suspension turrets. the tops were plated over and smooth and the studs welded underneath the turret facing down. Pointless telling you this now having done all your work. How about some kind of cover to go over them in white to disguise them a little and follow the white theme through.
Sounds good, get it built so i can have a lookie..lol

The spreader washers are the most I’ll ever spend on washers, that’s for sure!

Cheers mate, well it was you who told me to put one up! Glad you like, cheers for the feedback!
All the white will look great.
To be fair, the photo makes it look white even tho its actually grey? And it looks cool, just a bit unsure what it will look like when its fitted, would it be to much being the same colour as the body??
Well ive been quite busy today on the car, not got many photos, but I did take a few.
Heres a pip of the wiring for the headlights I’d redone the other day, forgot to add it. The other side looks pretty much the same!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/8FF65A0F.jpg
Anyway, first I got the gearbox painted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/E78FE7FF.jpg
And mount
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/12EDE534.jpg
Then I got the car moved into a postion that I could preb and paint it
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/A6ED0201.jpg
Heres the car jacked up with the windscreen removed and ive started masking up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/286F2A07.jpg
I then spent a while sanding and what not which I didn’t take any photos of. However, I did take a few of it after I’d painted

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/920658A6.jpg
And wing mirror covers
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/764286EF.jpg
And then before left I took all the masking off and rested the wings back on
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/41A5402B.jpg
enjoy!
Why the re paint? Just not happy with it?
Wiring is nicely tucked away.

i love this!
I like a lot of what your doing and can appreciate the workload involved in the detail however I would not colour code everything white! You always need something to break it up a little or its going to look like youve opened your bonnet and poured a few litres of white under their! I could be wrong however so Im interested to see what it looks like all built up. Either way top marks for attention to detail ;)
Nick.

Cheers for the comment, i know what your saying, i wasnt planning on painting everything white, but the 'box was black like engine last time and it was to much imo. Theres still plenty of black to break it up i hope. Just trying this out, if it doesnt work then i can change it after this years racing is finished anyway.

Well I had a day off yesterday while I let the paint harden, so today after work I got down to get a bit more done. First I fitted the door seals and doors using new door pins, which was relatively easy considering I was on my own.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/8AA6CEA3.jpg
Then I started fitting the lock mechanism and door catch but thought I may aswell run the round the polishing mop quickly 1st. didn’t put much effort in but they look miles better I think.

thanks, im using 2k paint. The results are ok, im still learning to paint so its by no means perfect, getting there tho.
Anyway, had a day off yesterday to ride my bike, so today I got cracking. I was lucky enough to have received a parcel from SimonTW this morning. So massive thanks to him for sorting me out!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/54CB812E.jpg
First job was to prep and apint the bonnet
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/D96BBCDB.jpg
While I was letting that go off, I set about fitting the bonnet lifters. Im not quite sure if I got this right, so if anyone spots anything wrong, please shout up!

Next I got on with fitting up the doors with the mirror and door handles
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/2D9297C0.jpg
Then the Perspex windows
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/D1B153D5.jpg
Then the rear

First side done
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/C6E5097C.jpg
And the other side. Need to sort out another mirror as mine seams a bit funked up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/1977693E.jpg
Then I placed the front bumper in temporarily
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/B413A142.jpg
And fitted the rad. Thinking of getting an alloy effort when I get paid tho.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/106B7793.jpg
Also, if anyone knows, im after the plastic clips and screws that the top of the bumper/grill screw into that fit here.

Maybe there the same on another car I could find in scrappy??
Anyway cheers for looking.

Alloy rads are nice, help alot with cooling i found.
ive never had a problem with cooling, but they look a million times better than the standard (oldish) gsi item. plus i can mount a pair of slimline fans the bumper side and open a bit more room up in the bay
Front mount fan every time. Gives the bay a much much cleaner look.
Now you have no fan. And now you can't open the windows.. Will you not get bloody hot? Or steam up?

liking this mr skud.. o.e looking poly windows, the white painted engine parts hasnt been done to this extent on a nova to my knowledge.. great exciting project. Like it when one gets down to such details.
ive got my bonnet lifters the other way round, unsure if thats correct mind. you might want to to try your bonnet on to make sure the lifters miss the inside lip of the bonnet, i had to tap mine outwards slightly.

Thanks, the windows need redoing pretty badly, i butcheredthem a bit when i fitted them last year, and pretty much everyhting thattouches them ruins them, but i wanted them to look standard. I’ll redo them 1day!

Not updated in a few days but i have made a bit of progress. Managed to get the bonnet mounted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/DA5DE52D.jpg
Ive wanted to move the header tank out of the bay completly, so i made a start on that
Made a pipe to go through the bulkhead
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/028C4881.jpg
And trimmed down a fitting to match the one for the wires
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/5CC0EE23.jpg
Fitted up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/AC8E7DB5.jpg
With pipe fitted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/734B08EB.jpg
And how it comes through
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/AF5DB222.jpg
And then where the header tank will go
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/59CB7E0C.jpg
Its not finished yet, just getting it all mocked up. Next job will be to take the wing off and run a pipe for the rad return.
Ive started changing where it originally mounted

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/C8470652.jpg
And finally ive moved the coil down to the gearbox.

Tempted to go megasquirt and remove it completley tho, we'll see next month!

Why not just relocate the coil behind the dash too?
http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/ignition-coils/msd-ignition-bulkhead-adaptor
The only thing I wouldn't want it is the pressurised header tank cap going off potentially spraying hot coolant on me.
I'd ditch the tank all together and go with something like this http://www.nfauto.co.uk/in_line_radiator_filler_neck.htm
I had wondered where to get the bulkhead fittings from, not sure whether ill be keeping it dizzy tho so mounting it where it is will be a better temp solution as it doesnt effect anything if i remove it at a later date, cheers tho.
As for the inline filler neck, there arnt many places i could mount it where it will be hidden outnof the way?
Appreciate the input tho!!

hi, where did you get your window seals from :) love the project btw
Just remember the header tank needs to be above the level of the engine, or you'll get air blocks, same with the pipes under the dash. And having it pop and pour hot water all over the inside of the car isn't nice. Mine did it..
I'd mount the coil under the dash too.Keeps it out the way (dry too)

Hmm well im not sure what else to do about the header tank short of getting a custom ali job made with expansion tank built in?
Also i dont want to mountbthe coil inside as i dont want to make another hole in the bulkhead and hoping it only going to be temporary.
I do appreciate what your saying tho
Cheers
Well i know not to mount the coil under the inlet manifold... They die there..lol
Tank will be ok there as that should be above the engine. Just be careful when running it up and that.. I'd had loads of thoughts over the years of where they could go...

Well after hearing various opinions about the header tank location i have put that on hold and decided to get on with a few other jobs this morning. First was to get the bonnet pins and headlights fitted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/74D37FE2.jpg
And the boot lock and plate and also the rubber and strut
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/BCE4657C.jpg
I also had the bad job of the cambelt, not alot if room there so had to chop down an old allen key and a 3/8's exstention and grind it up but i got there in the end
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/B16A1123.jpg
Not without a small injury tho!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/AFD6294C.jpg
Then i got the alternator mounted up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/B21F1317.jpg
And that was all i had time for this morning,
Cheers
You waited til the engine was in to change the cambelt! You madman lol
Another vote for having the header tank in a safer location though.

what screws are you holding the headlights in with and where you get them?

Yea it was a moment of madness!
The problem with the header tank is im running out of time. Got little over a month till i want to be racing! (And i really dont want it in the bay)
what screws are you holding the headlights in with and where you get them?
Just some self tappers that i found in a box down my unit
Well i cant have mine there so i dunno, i'll just have to ponder it for a while
Yeah i know, now you see why i left my bulk head in..lol
I like how you had it before, but i can see why you want it out the bay. Under the dash/behind the glove box might be best then. As anywhere else you'd have to have the screw top in the bay..
Oh and ya crazy fool, refitting the engine then doing the cam belt..
you should have undone the o/s mount and jacked the motor up to save cutting down the tools. lol. i had to cut down an allen key to get my belt cover off though.

I had thought maybe stick it under the hole for the headlight wiring on the passenger side so i could just have a filler hole in the bay but that would have ran the tank to low. I'll come up with something and if it doesnt work ill look into custom rad with expansion tank on it like some french and german tat style rads.

I know, but it only took me 10 min and the tools arnt wasted, at least i'll have them for when i fit some verniers!
Cheers for the comments tho guys!
My thought was under the dash, but with the top coming in to the bay. Prob is the top is sticking in to the bay.. Which will look messy.

It all looks bloody messy, thats the problem!!
Use a cut down civic rad mate, or similar. It will be the cleanest and cheapest option

or get an alloy radiator adapted or custom made with a header to the side of it..? radtec are in cannock.

Thats what i was thinking, but #1 does it matter which side the expansion tank is on, and #do i not need to run a top rad hose anymore?

ide have thought all that changes is the small top return outlet needs turning 90 degrees to the right and youll need a longer feed from the header tank to reach the hard pipe on the engine block, ide have thought its best to have it on the right-side of the radiator..?
The custom guru guys would be best advise - they might take an existing radiator thats like that and just weld on nova fittings..
If only it was that easy eh lol.
Ive emailed them so cheers for putting them my way, i have been thinking maybe instead of having a tank on the side, have it run along the top of the rad, then have a fill point somewhere under the centerline on the bonnet sits??
Hopefully they can help me out anyway
Many thanks!
hi, cheers for the interest. its been a while since ive posted as been busy with other things, but i have made a bit of progress with the car, but not got many photos, sorry.
got the fuel tank refitted, and ran a new fuel line inside the car as the one i had under the car had got crushed, got the front windscreen fitted, exhaust is fitted, however im not sure on the position of the backbox? done a bit more wiring, can only do a bit at a time as it breaks me! stared fitted a washer bag, piped up the jets, just need to get a length of pipe to take it from the bulkhead to the bag in the back,
have painted the driveshafts
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/4B51A3D2_zpsa72c98b2.jpg
and got a new rear window made and fitted
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/BEF53946_zps16260991.jpg
been trying to re bleed the brake system today however had no joy, seams the master cylinder is dead so i'll nip down scrappers tomorrow and get another, hopefully get that sorted.
i'll try and get a few more pictures tomorrow for ya.
Ok so its been a while since ive updated, been busy with other things and getting a little fed up with it. Anyway been cracking on agen lately with the hope of racing next month all being well. Anyway, first off ive ran my fuel line inside the car

Clamp still needs doin up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/1588E5A6_zpsf3ec1de8.jpg
Not sure if im happy with the tail pipe position, but it'll do for now as hopefully i can sort that when i get a new rear bumper
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/03B6B124_zps806b6fb7.jpg
Also fitted a washer bag in the back and got that piped and wired up
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/0B5B1708_zps7aeb3409.jpg
And finally, this morning my fans arrived so i spend a bit of time fitting them before work
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/6B1A0A81_zpsdad42b2b.jpg
Had a bit of a nightmare trying to get it running over the weekend, coulnt get it to spark no matter what i tried, luckily by pure luck i guess, found that the output pin on the hall sensor had pushed itself into the switch so wasnt making contact with the plug. Still need to sort it out permanantly but it does now run which is nice.
Really hoping to have it somewhere near raceable for the first weekend of may as theres a saturday night special i would like to not miss!
Cheers for looking

Yea never had a problem with them...

Well i havent got 1 to fit so thats kinda that, and bein as it on coilovers all round i fail to see how an arb would benefit me, i want the suspension to work independantly. Went round the track fine and bein as its going pod more than anything its just extra weight.
Not tempted with putting the tank back where it was, i didnt like it there, to cluttered. Im looking at ecu's just so i can remove the dizzy and make it a bit more clean around there! Its still a compromise what im doing, i need the car done and working for show season, hopefully it'll look ok, and also work ok
Cheers for all the comments tho
Great build mate! Engine bay looks great did you think about gettin a rad made up with the header tank attached like in a saxo with the cap ust showing behind the slam panel?

Oh, i'm surprised at that, but if you are happy and like the drive then it's all good.
Tank wise i know what you mean, i was just trying to think of ways of it will be hidden more.

yea i know what you saying, i just want it done ready for racing, and the way it was before wasnt the best fixing, im hoping that it wont look to out of place at the top, if it looks crap i'll just leave my bonnet closed at pod :P

I can see what you're going for & you're only a hidden header tank & pedal box away from the win; why didn't you go for black on the top mount bolts?

Yea i know what your saying, im not ready to spend £400+ on a custom radiator/header tank just yet, and i'll look at a pedal box once i have some 4pots sorted up front, plus i need to keep a few jobs for next winter rebuild, the cars not going anywhere so it'll get done eventually.
Didnt go for black on the top mount washers as they came in blue, not really thought about changing them, the i kinda like the contrast atm
Cheers for the comments tho

Cheers, nah it was only £70 and that was made to my spec so happy days really. I just need to find something to bung the old loom hole up with now as that sits under it.
Also unsure what to do about the finish of the bumpers, as there both different now.
That's a bloody good price. Paint both bumpers to match?
Yea paint both, just unsure what to paint them. E.g matt black, gloss black, some kind of grey? Something inbetween?
matt black is a no for me, black is ok tho, black and white work well together.

I do love the look of this nova
Buy another xe lump for a quick swap to get her running for PVS, and then plan a zlet conversion.
Ive hopefully sorted an engine bur whether it will be ready for pv i dont know. Should have a c20let sorted for it but it needs building up and then obviously alot of work to make it all fit whilst keeping it clean. The intercoolers a big problem too...
Been at work today which gave me chance to blast my new crank, its had work done to it a few years ago but it had gone a bit scabby so i got it in the dry hone tank and gave it a going over ready to drop it off at the engineers shop tomorrow to have it checked over and get bearings for it
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/skud52/Snapbucket/CF0D75BC_zpsfa982b4d.jpg
Also ordered some under piston squirters from vauxhall so hopefully they will be here tuesday and i can get them in the block and start mocking up the engine
With small bumpers, having the ic hidden is very hard, normally the bottom still pops out. Annoyingly i can see you having more hidden than me :(
I very much doubt it, as i remember its quite a beast of an intercooler, might have to just run without for pv. Any chance of some pics of yours fitted without the bumper? Pipe routes, and also have you cut out for the maf and pics of around there. Cheers
Corse, ill post some up when im home (on my phone at the mo)
Brilliant ta cery much. Im gunna be picking your brain alot over this engine! Hope you dont mind
Corse not, more than happy to hear, thats why i take pics of everything too, future ref.

That's not tomuch better than mine, Well mine isn't as high as that. I looked for the thinest i could find tho, to keep it hidden.
Yeah I will have to see what it looks like when ive got it, they seam pretty cheep so I guess I can always get something smaller, be nice if I could sit it behind the grill
Drop the rad down, get a smaller one and mount it at the top could work, just a bit more pipe working..
