i have a mk1 1.2 nova with 14" alloys fitted, the tyres on the wheels are 175 65 r14.

1)how low is it possible to go without any arch work etc?

2)how low is it possible to go on normal shocks, and how uncomfortable or bad for the car will it be?

thanks

Get a close look on the shocks, standard ones in decent nick will
last a long time, but they will eventually leak with load from the lowering spring. There is a big risk of grounding the car & bottoming out with massive drops. Get some bumpstops too.

Aftermarket shock/Shortened Shocks are very stiff.
Coilovers are the worst.

Tried & Tested, for acceptable comfort & slammed look,
go for progressively wound lowering springs (approx. ?90)
with a standard shock absorber, works for me.
Camber will also be "out" with a big drop, crap handling.

Try go for a GTE or GSi shock as they are stronger (?15 Scrappies)

WARNING - DO NOT CUT THE STANDARD SPRINGS (A LOT) !!!
Not only will your car bounce silly, the spring can snap !!!
Half a coil or so is ok.
