Dusted the back window off with my Calafornia Duster, looked at it for a bit, thought about putting the cover on it which has been off the car since Billing. Did sod all else to it and locked up the garage up again.

So today i had my 1st frosty morning (so frosty i had to heat up my key to get in) i thought i had best change the anti freeze as i dont know how long its been in there, then i gave it a full service including dizzy, cap, and leads for peace of mind and sorted out the rocker gasket that looks like its been leaking for the last 10 years. Next week i plan on fitting my koni adjustables, refurbing my sr steels and picking up my 185/55/14's that i won for £21 bargain

Plumbed in the heater matrix that I put in it last night. Fitted the heater fan (hell to get in), wired it up to the switch. Fitted the dashboard, wired a stereo, fitted doorcards, rooflining.

Went for a drive to check the heater works, when I started there was ice inside the windows, 10 minutes later the window was clear but....I did not have the rubber seal for the firewall so i nearly poisened myself with engine fumes..yum yum.

When I dont start my nova for a week or more its like I have to "drag" the fuel back through? Can this be a problem with the starting on my car? Could this be a problem with the fuel pump?

Just on the lookout at some point for an xe. Should be good for a giggle.

Home brewed toffee vodka. Fecking stuff is lethal! Add to that some normal vodka and coke in a pint glass or three and several shots of green absynthe. Plus some Tia Maria iirc. Unsure on that. Don't remember a lot tbh!! lollollol

It wasn't middle of the night. That was at 8 o clock that evening lol

And you mention JD as if it comes in other varieties as opposed to sour mash? lol.

Because a friend wants to rebuild it into something exceptionally cheap to build and run in his daily. Doesn't matter to me what he does, he's paying me for it lol.

Besides this means when I eventually get my xe I don't have to remove this one as I've already done it lol.

Yeyyy, good to see repair work has started already, i think you need to add a wedge under the throttle pedal so it will only go down a third of the way, and block the linkage so it wont get any gears higher than second lol

Ive done nothing to mine as yet, drove it on boxing day which was good fun, out down my fave local route (which is also my summer bike ride loop of about 18 miles) got a load of bits to do on it over the next week as im off, just rain is stopping play for now, oh well there is always drink (two bottles of honey jack should keep me occupied) :d

I was very pleased to see the sunshine yesterday. I wasn't so pleased when I found the battery to be flat when I turned the key being as I have not driven it since the NEC in November. So after plugging it in for a while I managed to get her out into the sun and stretch her legs. I did quietly curse the huge puddles that covered a lot of the back roads we went along, but being as my little lad loved watching the waves we made as we blasted through them I couldn't get too uptight. Just means that I shall have to clean it again very soon.

1 1/2 hours later we got back home and I put it back into the garage, this time remembering to plug the trickle charger in for next time I want to go and play.

Drill out, rethread and use a hellicoil rather than change hubs ?

Timeserts! Assuming it's deep enough. Helicoils are a temp fix imo, and I wouldn't use a temp fix on brakes... at least not as a permanant solution lol

Or just get another hub as said. I keep a collection just because I went through 4 bearings in 2 weeks (**** quality parts) and it's way easier to change a full hub after getting the bearing sorted, than try and get it all done in a day because you need the car. Will probably build the lot up and keep as spares when I build the track car, just in case bearings cause problems. Might need some driveshafts with CV's on too thinking about it lol

bazil
02-01-13, 03:48 PM
I had a spark plug thread coiled on my old E16, worked fine lol

I get what yous are saying though, it's not hard to get another hub I suppose

MK999
02-01-13, 04:29 PM
I've seen a gnarled up hole where a spark plug helicoil used to be... never seen one where a timesert used to be! Also seen a bike cylinder head I think it was, with 5 helicoiled holes and 1 timeserted, and 5 dead threads and one alive :p

Of course I never used to see the helicoils that did work because they didn't need fixing, but the fact I never saw a timesert fail as long as it had a deep enough hole, says a lot!

The kit also costs 10x what a Nova Hub would, so I'd get another one myself.

Wasteful? Are you joking? Your talking about a bolt that holds a caliper on.. You know the thing that stops the car.. Or if the bolt comes out will stop the car when you don't want it too.
When it comes to brakes.. DON'T MESS ABOUT.

turbojolt

i wasn't joking i would rather save a part then just straight replace it, like a proper mechanic would and not a parts fitter in quick fit, i understand what your saying 'brakes are important', but what to say i couldn't fix rather then replace and it be as safe?

i dont want to do something thats going to get me killed obversely thats why i asked the question, the 2nd thing i dont want to do if buy a new replacement knuckle and **** that up aswell lol, so are the threads holding the caliper to the knuckle strange or different or was it just its time to let go?

Benn
02-01-13, 07:52 PM
Being that the thread is a coarse one, i'm impressed you cross threaded it (guessing that's how you damaged it) I understand you wanna fix things rather than replace them. But safety first.. Then will be alot of force on a brake bolt... I couldn't trust a helicoil.
