Crossmember question

Both my crossmembers look like this :

now im unsure weather the gap is supposed to be there or it had rotted away ?
Everything else is very solid around the area with abit of surface rust

I've never done indepth work on a nova until recently so unsure how its supposed to be

Looks to be missing. I would add a small bit in there!

There isn't supposed to be a gap, thats rusted away metal.

cut the lot out and replace it with 3mm box :)

That part of the crossmember is a double skin.the skin underneath that one has rotted away. I would fit a new crossmember (soon)
