Hi all

picked another nova up on saturday from ebay + got round to getting it fired up today, most of the day has been spent sorting out the sh**e work the dozey kid had done but got it running

problems im having are mainly idle related, i can get it to idle ok at just under 1k but when i start it i need to give it a rev to get it running or it will fire + stall as if idle is far too low, or i can get it to start on the key without a rev but then its revving way too high

any suggestions?

either way it revs up ok but revs are slow to come down again though

also ignition timing, i know i have to disconnect TPS + connect a wires on plug together which puts it to a default idle + then set timing but any idea how to set TPS up properly?
Im not hearing any sort of click etc when opening throttle so im wondering if TPS is shot

What is the idle timing setting on this engine?

need to get it sorted
cheers all for your help

get a light blue haynes for the gte. it has the most info.

it sounds like the icv, which is located next to the cam cover & has 2 rubber hoses connected to it.

also the coasting valve sounds suspect, it is on the lh end of the inlet manifold.

the tps doesn't click, as its a rotary potentiometer.

and as for the timing adjustment, remember to retard it a touch for unleaded

right had a quick look this morn + things may be pointing towards coasting air valve
squeezed the pipe going to it from the manifold + idle was perfect, i took off the vacuum hose to it + idle was fine + it started on key without needing a rev, also revs dropped like normal
cheers for the help
