Right so today ive just picked up a set of 14" sr steels and i want to get them banded, ive done a search on google and there are plenty of places that do it but i want to know the best and cheepest that other members have had a good experiance with as these wheels can be expensive anyway and i want them right 1st time and whats the paint code of the centres so i can order the paint to match my brand new genuine centre caps

I'd like to know too, never thought about getting mine banded. Apparently eBay has some good deals on banding but i haven't really looked into it much

I've been told by lots of people that even the best one still won't balance up right. This is why I've decided not to use some on my loon.

My mates got some banded steels 8j rear and 7j front for sale if anyones interested. Balance up fine with no wheel wobble. Came off a lupo but believe the stud pattern is the same as a nova?

yes VW has the same stud as Vauxhall.
Banded steels are actually illegal to use on the road, although i most probably like the majority have no problem breaking this law the reason it's in place is because of the amount of cheap banded wheels going around. The last thing you want is to get a cheap set

-no there not illegal, there's a thread on retro rides showing emails from the dvla confirming that banded steels are NOT illegal as long as the banding is done to a reasonable standard.

define reasonable, reasonable as in don't leak air or reasonable as in built by a machine?

don't leak air and are welded to a good standard, you have to remember that steel wheels are only welded together in the first place, anyway, alonze customs have a large reputation providing, nice, well made, safe wheels.
By how much would your insurance go up when you notify your insurance company of a change of wheels?

not sure if theres any need to register if they were banded origional steels? as they will have the manufacturer markings on, correct me if i'm wrong.
But they would be a diffrent width to the standard, was more wondering what an insurance companies thoughts would be on insuring a car on banded steels.
