C20xe fuel pump relay

When I turn ignition to stage two the fuel pumps starts priming/fuelling up the engine but doesn't switch off, could this cause my engine not to start as not getting right pressure? It shouldn't flood as any excess will be going back down the return feed, is this because the fuel pump relay wired wrong? Any help much appreciated as I'm starting to lose patience with the nova now, it just won't fire up, got good spark, only run on easy start and starving car of air...
