Currently in the process of building a 8v turbo, I'm going to be using a 1.2spi bottom end with a highly worked gte head and inlet ( currently looking at making a custom inlet using tbs) along with a cat cam, bigger injectors, tubular manifold and t25 turbo, I'm using a late coil pack carrier and crank sensor. And using my dta s40 ecu hoping to achieve around 200bhp, fully rebuilt with arps and a gm headgasket, was hoping for some input and also needing to know where I can take oil feed from, I have a mocail oil filter plate I was thinking of using? If not where can I take it from? And pics if poss please
Also don't hate because its not a let, I'm going for something out of the norm :)
Cheers
my conversion uses a adapter where the oil pressure switch goes for the oil feed
+rep also for smallblock turbo
colin smith has cutouts in the bore to clear the e16se valves on his 1.0 turbo hill climber, and before anyone tries to tell me is a 1.0, it uses a 12st crank & a bore that is remarkably close to the 1.2 spi bore..
colin also uses the std gte inlet manifold... tbh, its more than man enough to cope with the power you are after, tbs might be a lot of bother as a turbo blows thru everything at higher pressure.
brummie mike put a how to article on turboing a gte, using rs turbo bits for the oil feed etc... its worth a look.
ps. go for it, i have a crazy plan involving a 1.2 spi block, 12st crank & gte head etc, and a turbo, that gives 993cc. & about 150hp.... but until i get considerably richer, its a pipe dream

That's interesting edd, are u then still able to use the oil pressure switch, I'm assuming its like a t piece?
Pics and info would be great, looking at building the manifold myself, what manifold have you used
Cheers

Thanks for the info mowgli, so do u think I'll have any clearance issues?
the 1.6 head has larger valves than the 1.2 spi, and the 1.6 is 79.00mm bore, the 1.2 is 72.00mm. its worth measuring up before fitting, even if you just drop the head gasket on to see if it fits

Ah right I see its not the length of the valves it if they will even go into the bore! Will have to check tomorrow
Cheers
get a wip thread up & running

Will do, just need to get a camera sorted this week :)
You can get the adapter off eBay
I'm using a Courtenay cast manifold
I'm either going to fit the 13N pistons or a 1600 head to low the compression
If I can get over 150bhp it will be so much better to drive than a XE/ten ton engine

Isit the rs turbo oil feed adaptor with fine thread 1 end and oil feed thread the other? Not very easy to get hold of are they the manifolds :/.. What other way could I lower the compression if I do run into problems, I was thinking of having the piston tops machined down
Parts I'm using
Irmscher 1300 injection manifold and TB
small block coilpack can housing
1600 cam, still not sure this is the best option?
X20Xev coilpack
C14SE crank pulley and sensor set up
Megasquirt V3 ecu
Courtenay mani
Either a rebuilt T2, or a T25, been told it might be too large
Moral oil filter relocation kit
13N pistons or the 1600 head
Sard fpr
Sump that has oil return
Some of the bits are from the courtenay 1300 engine I bought

Ok mate, sounds like a similar set up to what I'll be using, do you think a gte cam will be better than the cat race cam for road use as I don't want it to be a total pig
Not sure bout cars I need to look into it more tbh mate
These type of kit allow oil feed and gauge

Search eBay for oil feed or gauge adapter

There is a thread all about this, and what I used on mine somewhere in the articles section on here.

Should be able to sort something between us lol. Thanks mate, use that for my oil feed and just tap the sump and run the return straight in?
