Think my current job title is something like Vehicle Technician, MOT tester, and Recovery Operative.

Ideally I'd like to knock the spanners and MOTing on the head and get into the recovery more. But until my class 2 comes back, it's oily spanners for me :(

MK, so you are why I have to do so much overtime!?

Partly, they got shifty about it recently though, 4 or 5 years ago they cut direct uni funding massively, and then the tripled fee cap came in. Reason being obviously at least part of the student loans is paid back, and direct funding isn't!

Anyway idea is I earn enough over the next 40 years that it all pays for itself in income tax anyway lol

Server and operating systems tech for Boeing Defence, but at the moment doing new applications management and third line support (i.e. if nobody else can fix it, I get given it lol) - which is a bit of a catch all new requirements design, test and implementation, come up with the processes etc then hand over to others to run daily but for some reason I end up retaining fault fix for the hard stuff. Which I don't really enjoy tbh but hey ho, it pays the bills I guess. Looking to slide back into the hardware/OS stuff and trying to put my security analysis skills to good use.

I'm my own worst enemy as I can (and do) turn my hand to anything, so I usually end up getting dragged into stuff nobody else wants to do. My boss summed it up nicely a few months back when he was glad handing some managers and introduced my team as "Kev and Martyn who look after the database, and Jack who does.... errrrrmmm various things" LMFAO

because you work on stuff like that day in and day out, do you every sit back and realize how amazing it actually is?

Very much so. I started off at Rolls-Royce CNC Machining one component type.

Then moved onto Inspection of Modules.

I'm currently working on the Trent XWB Inspecting modules, but also check bits on the Engine, and the thing is HUGE.
Then there's the skill and complicity that goes into it all.

Only for me to find a problem and tell them to take it to bits.

Im an electrician, I specialise in domestic rewires. I work for the contractor that takes care of the London borough of Barking and Dagenham. Apart from experiencing the ineptitude of a large company, I enjoy what I do, it's taught me a lot of skills.I like to design and create something, then stand back and admire what Ive achieved. I suppose thats something we all think about our novas once we've worked on them.
I just love to fix stuff!! :-)

If i were out of work i wouldnt claim dole, was forced to go sign on about eight or so years back, broke me, i swore id never do it again, so min wage is fine with me if it keeps me out of the misery of being forced to sign on!

far too many thunderchunts in our society nowadays who would rather claim...

Aye as Stoo said, fair play if needs must etc.

Personally Ive never claimed it, by choice may I add.

Hobbit
06-11-12, 09:20 PM
I would happily claim if needed, put enough bloody money into the system so wouldn't feel bad taking a bit back out. Touch wood have never had to claim so far in my life, and being an experienced wagon driver means I dont seem to struggle finding work.

amazing how the benefit system that was installed to help people out that fell on hard times is looked at now days, if i lost my job my first stop would be the job center to look for more work, but if i couldn't find it i would sign on not by choice but through necessity

its easy to underline every body on jsa etc, when you have no real commitments other then cleaning your room at mum and dads house, i work day in and day out in dossers houses and i can clearly see where the benefit system is being abused which pisses me off, but to look down your noses at everybody that falls on hard times and has to claim is childish and pathetic.

Edd
07-11-12, 08:37 AM
I would claim if I had to and not be ashamed as I have paid taxes for 16 years

What pissed me off yesterday was I seen some utter dodgey chump I used to go to school with, he had just parked his RS4 up, got out looking like he had more bling than a rap star, this from a chap that has never worked

All is well tho, had a text back from another mate, apparently he is growing weed, so he'll soon have fcuk all again lol

Sadly everybody on JSA is tarred with the same brush, if only more people had Spuds attitude

07-11-12, 08:57 AM
I'd claim what I was entitled to - no shame in a claim. Its what you do with it though, whether you just claim to what you're entitled for a short period to tide you over til your situation improves (i.e. find another job, get back off sick leave, etc), or whether you sit back, pop out some kids and live off the profits.

I had to claim when I was made redundant was awful but if I hadn't I'd of lost my house so no option, thankfully now though I'm sorted and earning decent money again was a bad 18 months though I applied for absolutely everything to get off it had 2 temperary jobs in the 18 months. Hated going to the job centre as new people would be looking down there noses at me but was a necessity and I genuinely was looking for work unlike a lot of the tossers there that I went to school with that have never worked
