With my MOT coming up soon it might be an idea to change my catalytic converter lol

Its a 1.2 so the cat is part of the exhaust manifold, so the complete unit needs swapping...in the Haynes Manual it says to drain off the coolant first. Does anyone know why this is?

it probly says you need to to drain the coolant because a coolant pipe gets in the way when you remove the manifold (one to the left hand side of the engine from rad to head) so i took that coolant pipe off while doing this!

Just take off the "s" thermostat - rad hose mate. You'll loose next to no coolant. I never anyway. Also I found it easier to take the manifold off and remove/replace it through the bottom of the car.

May I ask why your changing it before it's tested lol you might not even need to change it?

The emissions light came on and the car felt revvier and faster lol I thought going through the bottom would be easier
