vauxhall signum 2.2

I've been offered one of these cheap

2.2 petrol, 77k, 2 owners

BUT, the spanner symbol is up on the dash and it won't rev above 3k

Now I know it's probably not possible to just say what's wrong with it

But does anyone know if there Any common faults/easy fix that causes this problem?

Any advice on what to do?

But I ain't got tech 2, or whatever it's called

My mate will do it for me at vauxhall but the car's 7miles from the stealership

Unneeded,just do a pedal test.

As with most things I'm clueless

How do you do that?

Push brake pedal and throttle pedal down,then turn the key to where the lights come on (keeping pedals down) after a while the engine management light or the spanner will flash the codes up,write them down then search on the net as to what they are.
