View Full Version : New Project Help?
I'm in two minds.
Seen a few Corsa C Zlet builds, really like them, like that it's just like a new model Nova with no rust probs.
Been looking and thinking for ages about building one and what and how i'd do it.. Any time i have a prob with my Nova i get pissed off and thinking build a nice C.
So last few weeks i've been thinking what to do to the Nova over the winter.. It's been driving on and such.
But a while back a car sales i deilever too had a nice C in there, that where where breaking for scrap. I had a look around it, 993cc 12v semi auto (tip tronic box) in a odd silvery greyie purple.. Clean in sides and AC.
Guy said they wanted the engine and box but that was all.
So i said i'd give him £250 for it... Since then nothing.. Then today out of the blue he rings me.. Do i want it? Come see him.
Pop in there says i offered £450.. Which i didn't, told him to much, cheers anyway and walk out of his office.. He called me back and said what would i pay, i said £250 cash.
Now they've taken the engine and box out, but all done right, nothing cut or anything fronts stripped.. But here's my problem.
Do i have the C and slowly build Zlet project up.. Trying to do both cars?
Or do i just carry on with the Nova..
What do i do? I dont know now!

Do both Benn, slow build on the corsa if you have room to store it.
Buy it dude.... Your novas practically the finished article. Build a c and abuse it all year round!
Nick.

I actually really like the Corsa C...and to be honest if I had the space/time/money etc to do a proper strip down build up I'd like to do one more than a Nova or Corsa B.
I like the moderness of them with no rust issues and so on combined with the fact they are still relatively simple cars
They do rot, Mrs friend had rust problems round the bulkhead area, common apparently
Plus z let's are awful engines IMO, standard turbos are rubbish so you'll need a VXR one, afm, boost solenoids and stem seals are all crap
Nothing like a C LET that's for sure
Sounds a good price tho
I've been reading more, they suffer rust in the filler cap badly too. I've only been in a Astra with a Zlet, that was nice and quick. I know it will need VXRing up, but i can do that as and when...

Will it not be too similar to the Nova to be worth while? If you are looking a new plaything, could you not be tempted by rear wheel drive, jap/ german etc, just for a complete change of direction to the Nova.

Its the same. Just the zleh is a hell of a lot more!

I know.

THat's kinda why i like it, it's just a new updated Nova..
i'd sell the nova and go for a vxr C, there's loads of spares available and my girlfriends old C never had any rust on it when we sold it, was still clean underneath, in that had 120k on it and was never of the road all year, think it was a 2001 model, any project has its ups and downs but a car that rusts so easily is just not for me, hence why i'll never own a nova again as its just to much hassle to keep on chasing rust/keep it dry/cant use it in winter etc, so punt on the nova and get building lol, seen some nice looking C's and im sure with your attention for detail it would be well tidy, you could even buy a properly converted one and still have monies left after the sale of the nova to make life easier :)
Have you seen benns's nova!? Honestly if I were you I wouldn't ever sell the nova, yeah they rust but it will get more attention than a corsa c anyday!!
Tbh the corsa's are more refined, comfortable and less rusty, but they just don't have enough character to make a cool car out of.
At the end of the day its up to you, but whatever you do don't sell the nova!!

get it mate and bring the nova out on nice days if you do get it do it the same blue as the nova :thumb:
Corsa Cs are crap and zlets are crap too.
Just my opinion after owning 3 of each.

Less rust is the thing, as it would be decked on coilovers so would be just as hard.

That would kinda be the plan, the C would be an everyday car.

They really that bad? In what ways? And if you've had 3 you must like them...

see the ze engined c's on ebay all the time floating around the 3k mark, how much do they cost to build?

I'd never buy a car already done. No point as you have to either fix what some has already done. Or take off the stuff they think looks good but is shi*e

fair enough mate, was just thinking if they cost double that to build, it would be better to buy then build and just fix the niggly little problems

Is it just me that thinks corsas get worse as they get newer. Corsa bs are by far the best corsa the Cs are worse and the Ds more worse.
I find the late Bs the best to drive with the EPS. the newer ones are vague and dull to drive.
purely in my own experiance.

But with a Corsa B you might as well have a Nova, they suffer with rust just as badly yet are heavier and less exciting

yes. and the c's and D'd are even heavier and even less exciting. If you want somthing that doesnt rust there are plenty better cars out there.

I know what youre saying, I think what I mean is Corsa Bs are like a rubbish Nova but later Corsas are Corsas in their own right if you get me lol
I'd like a c zlet. Fit, forget and abuse.
[QUOTE=Benn;2082342]hahaha no. not gonna and no plans to sell my Nova.

lol I just find Corsa C UK to be full of young uns (Jesus I'm only 22) who are only interested in tints and bad boy alloys...very few members who actually know much about anything

I like small cars with big engines, i like the C as it's like a newer Nova

I've already looked on there and was a bit shocked and disapoint. Main mods are led lights and stuff... I'll be past stuff like that on week one.
I'm still not really sure what to do.
Have a look at some for sale and go for a test drive is the only real way. Would be alot easier than building something and finding out you don't like it.
Try a few car dealers for std corsa's then view a couple with LETs in and see what you think. Ive driven a corsa c sri and couldn't keep it in a straight line, purely because the steering was so sensitive where I was used to the vague nova steering!! I did like the build quality though, nowhere near as much road noise at speed and obviosuly its alot more solid than a tinny nova!
Bad idea imo. Don't build another car which is essentially another Nova turbo. There are so many cars out there, surely something different (non-Vaux) interests you?
Life's too short n all that.

That's a good idea, didn't think about that. Shame no one around here has a Zlet C.

I think that's why i like it, it's a newer Nova. Which i love.
sounds like you have made your mind up
Tbh no, i've been thinking since writing this thread and have no clue what to do. It's getting to me now.
I have a list of stuff that needs doing to the Nova, which are all winter jobs. If i get the Corsa will i just spend on that? Or will i be trying to do both? Or will i be able to carry on with the Nova leaving the Corsa to sit and spend when i can? Cause if i build it, i know how i want it to look and that will cost alot. I have no clue on what it will cost to insure... Have emailed Hic to see if they mirror NCB.. Cause if not it will cost alot to insure...
2 projects is too much imo,one will always be favoured over the other, and either finished to a lower standard,or not finished in good time.
That's what i've been thinking and what i don't/wouldn't want.
I had it happen to me years ago,i had a gte project ongoing reshell and spent months welding it up etc, then along came a roadgoing 1.3 sr.The gte got thrown together and sprayed matt black. The sr got minted bits and the gte got the "make do's".
Then i sold it in bits and weighed the welded shell in as nobody bought it.
I will NEVER have 2 ongoing projects/toys ever again.

Benn, store the Nova away for a year "if you dare" and build the Corsa C... Once the corsa is finished get the Nova back out and get back too us and see what you reeeeally enjoy, I bet the Nova will make you more at home and you flog that Corsa ;)
lol I dont like putting the Nova away as it is...
I would keep going with the Nova over winter
If there's still stuff you want to do to it, it's not finished lol and I agree two projects on the go isn't good unless you've got a mega cash flow
I dont have mega cash no, it's deffo not finished needs a new roof... :(
If it were me I wouldn't bother then
Cheap as possible to run for a daily car IMO then Nova for a bit of fun/petrol wasting lol

Don't do it Benn. 1 project is enough - trust me! It will never be the nova.

I dont so much really need a daily, plus i'd wanna do any car up. I couldn't not.

You either end up putting all attention on one car or try and split between the two and do half a job! My 200sx is now finished. M3 finished when new wheels go on in 2 weeks time. Then hopefully back on the nova! lol
I think you really should try and get a ride in a C Zlet first. I can understand the appeal with it roots of the nova but there's much better cars for a daily out there. If its cos your looking for a new project or new challenge I'm sure you can be more creative than that!

That's one way I suppose you "might" get the bloody thing built then lol
Personally, i fecking hated my corsa c, worst car i have owned by a long way. Hated the car and hated the scene with them lol.
BUT if you like them and want a more modern nova-style then i would say go for it, although from what i hear, you would need to run stage 2 at least to make them any fun to drive.

Having a ride in one would help. It's the doing two at one time thing that is really putting me off.

Take on my nova project then lol
Ok, easy.
Looked at a few C in the scrappy, looks all bolt in to change. Found a late black one with all the bits i need too. Just work out what to do.. Drove the Nova today, was great.
