Bulgarian TIME ATTACK Nova GSi C20XE Coscast Build. Start from scrap.

Hello, I am going to present my current build of my Nova GSi, that I bought on 3rd of July 2012 this year and I am preparing for Time Attack racing, class street with restrictions to 2000cc N/A Engines.

I always wanted that kind of car as it's really f***ing light compared to cars in the same class and that should be an advantage. Later during the summer i got a C20XE Coscast early type 2.5 motrornic from an Mk2 Astra for 300 quid.

FK Street type suspensions, as there are penalty point for coilovers in the street class. Anyway, enough talking, let's go and see the pics of the build so far. I am currently studying 2nd year Motorsport Engineering in Huddersfield UNI and during the breaks I am working on the car.

And three days later the build started, shell is pretty bad, a lot of rust on some really crucial details. A lot of welding had to be done in order to get it right.

Bought a GTE Grille as mine was not from a GTE I don't know why, it does not look like the car has taken a bump ..

Not to sound negative but surely living out in the sunshine & not our cr*p wet British weather you can find a better shell to start than that?

Time Attack / Track surely you want a good rigid solid shell & that looks ready for the crusher!

You maybe sh1t hot with a welder, I have no idea but looks a hell of a lot of work before you even get started.

@Martin Kelson, you have not seen nothing yet, pretty much car has fully finished front right now, but it took a lot of work on it, I am still getting around the problem of uploading only 15 pictures in the forum here as it doesnt allow me upload more. We have examined all bad places on the car and decided to continue the build a long time ago so no worries, it will get done :) Also, GTEs/GSis are very rare here and I also wanted to save this car as it was clear in a couple of years it will go to scrappers

Good luck on this build but it's going to take a long time IMO to get that back on the road, surely that's better out there to build.

looking forward seeing your progress love to see a nova doing time attack , my bro doing uk one in his corsa b n/a under 3litre class and is drawn second in his group at min with a 280bhp honda civic gonna be close all way to last round. pic of it at croft from last weekend beaten by half a second in final.

C16NZ Engine went out as some turbo heads took it, i could not sell it either as it does not have a hydraulic pump implemented in the block so it's of no use for other cars than novas .. I got in a Coscast C20XE 2.5 Motronic the very same day from an 1991 Astra Mk2 I did not check it's condition, i just saw a video of it starting without exhaust manifold and oxygen sensor and it started from a 1/4 of a revolutions so I was amazed. Engine looks stock and I did not hear any knocking from the tappets either, paid 300 for it.

Right suspension turret was a complete mess so we rebuilt it totally in the end, I did not do the welds however as I am not that good with them. A 17 year old friend of mine did those for me, you will be able to check them out on the later pictures.

With a brand new BOSCH grinder and by using a hard wire roller for a drill i got to clean all the metal pretty good

I'm no welder, but neither is your mate by the look of things!

I am not being a dick, just have to agree with the others. A stronger shell - or failing that, a compotent welder - is needed here.

I have never seen a Nova with as many patches on one turret and inner wing!

My god, is the only panel that's not rusty the roof skin?
I've never seen anything rust as bad as that, looks like you dragged it from the sea bed!

winters in Bulgaria are quite harsh, we have a lot of snow and the sand and the salt that they use to melt the snow on the roads is killing old Vauxhalls and Fords really quick.

Cleaned it all up, bought a litre of Rust Remover from Wurth, 50 GBP :O ; then used 3 cans of Zink Spray again by Wurth, applied Body Paste and then painted all white so we can see if there are any leaks inside the engine compratment

Fully revised lower ball joints, fully revised steering rack with inner and outer ball joints as well, and i still need to buy front anti roll bar from a Combo as it's 25 mm : )))

Purschases for the last 9 months : I got 13 Inch Slicks Avon for free from Huddersfield University Formula Student Team :P I got a set of brand new GAZ rear coilovers with 300 lbs springs, after that i stubmled upon a full set of front and rears GAZ, which again (as we have always been lucky when it comes to accidental improvement) got to be a set of rears with 250 lbs springs and the front with 350 lbs and camber plates, got them for 300 quid on here on PNG and a set of PiperCams 264 duration 10.16 lift again on here for 150. So far so good, full set ot PowerFlex bushes for the front and adjustable ones for the rear 4x4 Cavalier suspension :) Got a gearbox F16 W374, front brake calipers 256, and a set of 13 inch Mattig SSF ET0 wheels which fit 256mm brakes, lower suspension arms from a Corsa B as they are reinforced by factory, starter motor for the C20XE, C18NZ block which will be bored out to fit C20XE things on it but this will be later on, currently the car has new front mask, new rear mask, new front fenders, 2nd hand front hood and currently another old mate, is working on fitting the rear suspension, no pictures however, he does not let me see any progress until i go back home ... Hey, did I say we are both 20 years old ? ;D
