Posted something in General Car Chat but I should be fixing the odd problems so I'd say its a project lol !
Bought this wee gem today and I'm looking forward to start driving next year :)
I'm only 16 atm but its a wee project until I can drive then hopefully it'll be tidy!
It's a 1.2 Flair Injection..
-Lowered 35mm (60mm by next year)
-Speedlines (Be doing them Silver eventually)
-It's got a backbox but don't have a clue what it is.
Bad bits:
-Surface rust in the usual spots, they'll be treated soon :)
-The Hazard switch is jammed with pieces of Cards so it stays off lol (Be fixed soon)
2 pics when I got it home..

It looks great in the pics. I was 16 when I bought a 1.3sr but that was many many years ago lol
Reminds me on my previous flair, loved that thing! Mine ended up with unpainted gsi front and skirts though.

All tucked up, no garage so a cover will be the next best thing :( Reason why there so close is because there is another Orange ST to go beside the blue one Lol

If you treat it and it comes back then just repeat it again. The proper way is chop back to good sound metal, weld in a piece, seam seal and paint but that's not practical unless you have all the proper gear

Not that small is it :( ?
NOV4_SPORT
17-10-12, 05:38 PM
A small block xe is the 1.6 16v engine as fitted to the corsa sport iirc mate
The worst of the rust looks to be the battery tray and around the bulkhead and rear arches but its not sure a major job to repair as long as all the rot is cut out and fresh metal welded in and sealed it will be a proper repair and not some fiber glass and filler bodge job lol.

Well done on doing things correctly mate. Looks like a good wee base you have there. As for getting comments on your hard work, I wouldn't hold your breathe. It's nice to get feedback on what your doing as it keeps you motivated, but see it as a blog/evidence on what you've done to the car over the years.
Because trust me, if your not apart of the png massive you'll get little or no interest lol

i know alot of the rust treatments say just to apply it over the effected area, but i always wire wheel the surface stuff of first the apply it seems to work better that way
good to see this being saved, having the rust delt with and not just painted over or hidden behind a bumper or sideskirts :thumb:
Novasport
13-01-13, 01:32 PM
You have to keep working that green gel into the area until it removes the rust then wash it off. It is a rust remover not a rust converter and i have never found it to be very good.
millworm
13-01-13, 01:40 PM
I always sand down and chip away all the rust I can before using rust removes/converters although 9 out of 10 times I just end up cutting it out and wielding it, lasts longer too.
Also nice to see your making progress more than I've made since I've had mine I found some bad rust on the inner wing on mine so looks like I'll be taking it into work soon to get that sorted.

Probably a bit late now but if you pull the hazard switch apart and take all the internals out (a little plastic bar and a spring iirc) it just becomes a pull on/push off switch, no more issues with it not turning off etc.

Cheers mate, well pleased with it right now, just annoyed that I need to try get the arches sorted before its too late!
£15 a side for repair section, just get it booked in a done and sealed up before the winter and while its being done get them to fold the arches for better tyre clearance,
It's not a big job just now and the repair area can be kept small before the rot spreads,

Have only glanced at this before, but read start to finnish. Shes comming on well!
As for the -60's, fronts will need the lip rolled, and rears you might get lucky, my old sri down 60 on 45 tyres and speedlines had std rear arches and only about 20mm of the back arch rubbed (where the tyre comes back into the arch, if that makes sense) ground it back by 2mm, sealed and painted.

Cheers for that Gary, we'll see what happens. :)
Doubt there will be many updates for a wee while, trying to get insured as a learner and get lessons done, apprentice wages are ****. :(
This was a photo next to an old but clean-ish Audi that sadly came in to be scrapped at my work.

My mate brought his Fiesta in to be scrapped, couldn't find any rust/rot on it and it had 30k miles, such a shame to be scrapped but no-one was interested init at £400. Well they finally got a photo together... well kind of...

Neverrrr :d
It had no rot that I could see when it was on the ramp, genuine 30k miles, just no-one would buy it at £400 and he didn't have the time to keep it so had to, I just had the pleasure scrapping it :)

Went to Kames Raceway today for its 50th anniversary, was quite a few pricey classics for example e-type Jag but we were just interested in our Nova stand.
Went round the track with 2 other Nova friends and at the end i man'd up and went out in the 1.2, first time driving the car like that and on a track, baring in mind I've not even passed my test yet.
