you have to splice the wires into the xe loom and it over rides the std xe ecu so you can map them there ok if you can find someone who nows what there doing with them

i phoned dastek an they said it would fit but it was a woman i spoke to, she said it would work an got a quote for getting it mapped seems like there is alot you can do with them

ye mate its joining the wires onto to std loom and ecu what gets pricey. you would prob be beta looking at omex or megasquirt ect as there is loads of people that will work with them

Dastek is only an hour up the road for me, an the ecu is only 100 sheets, about 300 to get mapped depending how long it takes

I'll go dig out my rant about them from mig...

They aren't as good a value as they fool you with. Far better off getting a proper aftermarket management setup.
What spec is your engine?

its a fairly standard engine maybe get tbs for it not sure yet maybee a set of cams eventually and some head work but not anytime soon

ImhO if you fit tb's and cams you be hugely hugely disappointed with the dastek, and it will be £300 every time you change something.

maybee need to look for something else then :/ , is it just the fitting? or are they not very accurate? much adjustment on them?

It's a bodge being a piggy back ecu

what would you recomend on a budget?

Dta exp48

Thing is 2nd hand dasteks are worth sweet feck all, but a 2nd hand dta/omex etc only really drops 40% and stays there for years and years so long term costs you less

looking pricey! maybee have to wait a bit!

problem is that you need to get the ecu sorted out if you are planning anything other than very mild upgrades...

i get the impression that these things are one step up from that resistor thing off ebay that fools the coolant temp sensor into thinking its cold & bangs the mixture up

Are they not just a piggy back ecu?

mowgli

yes, so they try to mess with the signals that the factory ecu makes, thus they are always going to be a bodge compared to a replacement mappable one that is mapped properly..

Yes but they need mapped? Unlike a eBay chip

mowgli

and that is the trouble.. they only alter the map to mess with the factory signals.

What's the problem with that? Aslong as it alters it an its not running lean or ritch it's doing the same job is it not?

do they map it when warm or cold, or both???or take pot luck on it? the unichip is universal, thus its always a compromise

Kinda, but as said, every time you change something on the engine you have to goto them for the map,to be changed.... Atleast a dta and the like you can do small tweaks for free :)

Am pretty sure it will get mapped as normal, I have seen piggy back ecu's used on race bikes an it does the same job
