On Nova GTE, GSi and Sri Engines there is a plug that can be switched between 2 octane ratings (95 or 98). Mine was set to 95 on the GTE engine and i had a full tank of Shell Optimax Unleaded Fuel, and it ran fine. So i decided to change it to 98 to suit the fuel and to see if i would have a noticeable gain in performance. But when the revs got past 4000rpm, the power output was not smooth, it was a bit chuggy. Why would this be? Cheers

How do you do a ECU reset? I've switched my octane plug on my GSi to 98 and have been using Optimax only for the last 12 months or so, I've never noticed any lack of power since using it but I never did a ECU reset neither, so just incase I should of done, how is it done?

I think you just disconnect the battery for at least an hour

ecu will self learn over a few miles... ecu reset is just a way of making it learn faster

"revs got past 4000rpm, the power output was not smooth"

This is what mines doing - i did an engine conversion from a 1.2i and a GSI and this is exctly how mine feels.

could this be anything to do with the octane plug???? Ive never even looked at it :o

Also when you say switch to you mean change the plug or is there an actual swith??

you unplug it, turn it over and plug it back in. if your says 95 and 93 then u cango to a scrapys and nick a plug with 95 and 98 on. :)

what does changing the octane plug do? without sounding silly here?

Also What happens if you are running opitmax or super uL and the put unleaded in but dont switch it back?
