Need a set of these on the Mondeo, I am leaning towards Kumho or Falkens, they seem to be a good compromise between grip, wear and price. I have a set of Kumho Ecstas on it at the moment, and they have been fine.
Where's good to buy tyres these days? eBay seems to have the best deal I can find, x4 Kumhos for around £309 delivered.
Or maybe the Maxxis MAZ1? That's last choice so far, but the reviews seem mostly in its favour.
Anyone used these?

camskills and black circles are good on prices
Local tyre place will be cheapest by the time you factor in fitting etc. play them against each other.
I need some of these for the golf, might just get rid of the wheels and get some 16"s lol

This!
A while back I got a price from a local tyre place that was £1 per tyre more than any internet supplier, but of course that included fitting etc rather than the extra £40 needed to get 4 tyres done thesedays..
Well like I say, I favour the Kumhos of the choices so far, but once I have got the best price, I fully intend to see how much they will be supplied and fitted from a local place.
I know once place that will fit your own tyres for £20 a corner, so I suppose I could say my best price so far is £329.
I wasn't impressed with Camskill and Blackcircles. Will have to do some ringing around.
Cheers.
i dealt with black circles & their local tyre fitting agent was fine....
but the next time i bought some used tyres off a private seller the next time & fitted them myself.. balancing is overrated, as it runs perfectly without it being done.
Haven't looked at tyre prices for a while but I never paid more than £300 fitted for that size on the Celica. Highly rate FK452s, although I have KU31s on at the mo and they're pretty good.

I have them on the back of the BM. Tyre man said they are well thought of brand in motorbicycle circles as I'd never heard of them, so took a chance.... I have done about 8000miles on them and there is a lot of life left in them. Not once have I felt the need to change them. Usually shlte tyres make the TC light flash like fcuk as they try to spin, but even in the wet these are ok. For normal driving in a normal car they will be fine.
Edit- just for reference that's 255 40 17 size not that it would matter.
Ku31's are no more, unless they are old stock. Kh39's are the replacement.
£20 per corner fitting, ouch.

That's what I thought! It's a fiver even if it's not someone I know here lol Last time someone told me £60 to do a set of 4 I walked out :p
what's so special about fitting them??? won't the standard machine do them, or is it a con?
Tyre places used to make money on tyre markup, now people buy them online the tyre shops need to make the cash, so most charge £10 per corner ime. Nothing special about fitting, just you NEED them balanced unless you like white knuckle syndrome.
like i said above, i put a set of 205/55r16s on by hand on alloys & they are on the front & there is no wobble at all... tyres are made to such good tolerances these days, that if you have no wobble before swapping them, you'll have no wobble after... its yet another bit of common ignorance that garages keep doing
What brand are those magic tyres?
I know some race series don't permit weights so to balance up some rims they take a grinder to the alloy lol
£10 a tyre at my local place, but that's including balancing and they take good care of the rims I take them. Usually works out cheaper to order them off the Internet and take them to pay the £40 fitting too.

because its the rims & valve that are out of balance... seriously, you can get a stone in the tread & by the size & weight of it, you'd think it would throw the balance way out, but it doesn't, i did a load of work for a metal coatings bloke & he was coating tyre moulds for a major manufacturer & the tolerance for the coating was ridiculous
Mike, i very, very very rarely see a tyre that doesn't need any weights fitting (only michelins) A lot depends on how they've been stored.
Limpy go for the kumhos if you can :)
john, but you aren't putting them on the same rim each time, or actually taking them up the road to try them out first.. tyres bounce & deform & spring back, rims bend, even if only by a tiny amount
Falken fk452's. I have been through a set of fronts on my mk5 golf and managed 15k miles. Plenty of grip and not noisy. I have just replaced them with another set. I think they were £156 delivered next day from Camskill.

Of course, but an imbalance will still cause a vibration. I have lots of opinions here, but time for another thread? This is Liam's thread about the Mondy tyres. :)
Don't worry about me, John. I'm sorted now mate. Opted for Kumho KU37's. Four supplied and fitted for £310 at a local (decent) place. :)
Thanks for the advice and info everyone.
