Do a cash deal with the Polo owner?

Chay84

It's a wing and door plus paint I'm thinking it would be pricey

Oops. If you can get away with it and afford it, try for a cash deal.Otherwise nova will be scrap, you premium will go thru the roof and you'll be driving a corsa c 3 cylinder for at least three years.

What's the most I should pay before I think about going thru insurance

Prep and paint for the wee polo is £300
But steering is playing up as it hit the wheel also and that's £325 at a minimum and that's just for the strut could be wishbone or strut top or steering rack

Bet that Polo was mint.

Sorry, that fresh remark was unrequired. Hope you haven't put a hole in it, mate.

Funny but not as funny as this

A man walks into a bar. He then meets some friends and has a rather enjoyable night.

Anyway more to the point got call from garage and new strut has been fitted and steering is still not right he says 800 will do it, I think he is getting his parts from the mint (not the polo with hole mint) cause at 110 for a wheel bearing it must be gold plated

Typical prices for a newer car I'm afraid mate.

That's dealer prices and vw have never been shy with prices

Wasn't vw it was a repair shop i vw and there cheaper, I'm not paying 800 for him to say its the steering rack, they can just claim off my insurance, will I have to add a accident to my motorbike policies?

You will. As stated earlier by others, you will get bummed for this.

£800 on quite serious repairs to a relatively new car seems reasonable. What price do you consider fair? Sounds like you have made a right mess of it tbh.

Garage already quoted 325 for doing strut which is way over the top now he has fitted it he said its not that, plus I gotta pay for someone to paint it

I only bumped it,small scuff on door and wing and now she has a Wobble at 60mph the £800 is to supply and fit a strut, strut top, control arm, hub and wheel bearing, I priced it at vw and it's £420 for parts and I priced it at local motor factors and it's £290 for parts so he is charging 400 for labour,I could fit that in 2hrs so it's 200per hour these days?? plus she got a price for painting elsewhere for £250

I wanted to pay cash but garage will proberly say its not that once I pay the £ 800

Then say its a shaft or steering rack the garage has a licence to take the piss IMO

Take it through the insurance then. I probably would was it my Polo anyway.

I'm all for being fair, but if the car is not right somewhere afterwards then the innocent party always loses out. Did you say you hit the wheel too?

Could just the wheel be buckled slightly or maybe just needed balanced

Chay84

Yeah I hit the wheel :/

Yeah totally my fault and the lady I hit is a very nice lady that wanted it to be fixed as cheap as possible so it didn't cost me too much,

wheel has been checked and seems ok the mechanic that is fixing it is clueless

What is your excess?
What is 5 years no claims worth to you
What is 3-5 years of declaring the incident to you?

imho £800 is 'cheap' for the long term saving.

Plus paint on top

Then for guy to say its still not fixed, true tho cause I have 2 car and 2 motorbike that I insure but I checked and my car insurance for vectra is going to go up by 100
