just be messing about on confused, getting quotes for a cossy  and while messing about with bits and bobs to see if i could get the quote down from £4,000.oo
i decided to see what kind of affect saying i had owned the car for a few years would have, not adjusting my no claims or anything else
£1,400.oo
why does owning the car for 4 years drop the quote by 2,600 quid

I would imagine there guessing if you have owned it 4yrs an not had it sole or crashed it then your a safer driver to insure etc..

do they have ways of checking how long you have owned the car?

I thought it would've gone along the lines of no claims as opposed to how long you owned the vehicle...
do they have ways of checking how long you have owned the car?
I'd assume they would base it along the lines of how long it has been registered in your name via the V5... However, that does not prove how long you've owned it obviously...

yer i wouldn't advise it, but i dont remember seeing anything stating when i bought my car on any insurance documents
Its a proven fact that your statically more likely to have an accident in a car youve owned for 3 months or less.
Apparently so anyway (according to Top Gear website that is lol)
Anyway, £1400, sod that lark! 800ish FC will do me lol
i've owned my nova since april 2000..... but its only been on the road for about 4 years.... classic insurance is minimal anyway...

24, 1 years ncb, 1400 quid is fook all lol

IMO its a lot of money as you could easily get it cheaper (sub 1k) :/ I was paying that (£1400) on a Nova SR when I was 18ish, nowadays the same car at that age would be well over £3k!
Im nearly 27 now, £400 odd on my daily lol gotta love getting old as the rest of its just diesease & death lol
I questioned it when I swapped cars from my Nova (1.6 stripped out buckets etc etc) to a standard 306 diesel and it cost me £120. Apparently it's just experience driving that specific car or something similar (I'm guessing your previous insured cars are kept on file)

How have you managed to insure yours on a classic policy out of interest?
If you work in't trade itll be cheaper aswell.
Mines quite hight for vehicle/age because ive got silly stupid milage. Upto 40k, which Im not really that far off now lol

i rang performance direct, and it is all listed mods & on a limited mileage classic policy. simples...its a second car and has no ncb on it
But if its modified it cannot class as a classic car, thats why im paying so much on my valver, would be about £100 FC if not, i was told that by both HIC and Performance Direct when shopping for quotes whilst mid build!
You can mod a classic car. Those who say you can't are douchebag companies lol
it probably helps that mine has an engine that was originally fitted to a nova

Hmmmm, need to ring Sky tomorrow then i think lol
mines £218 on my gti *childish smirk*

No offence to sky, but try proper classic companies rather than run of the mill ones

Ive got both my policies with Sky though and cba/cant afford to start a new policy lol
IIRC sky dont do a classic policy.
Try Footman James one of the best prices i found.
I'm with Footman James. Classic policy with an agreed price certificate :thumb:

My MR2 is on classic car insurance and that has loads of modifications. Engine swap, cage, buckets, suspension, wheels, brakes etc etc.
My nova gte is £137 a year with adrian flux, classic policy with agreed valuation.as said before its the only good thing about getting older ;)

This really is for genuine classics, eg old MG's , not for a modifed Nova I'm afraid.

It shows you are capable of owning the car without claiming. We will not quote on certain cars unless the customer has owned them for a year or has good recent relevant experience.

Insurance is all about statistics.
Chris Knott (who im with on gti)
Peter Best
Footman James
All classic policy specialists.
Spud, best angle would be a limited mileage second car policy. Thats why my Nova was relatively cheap (ish) to insure. Actually I seem to remember a few companies asking what experience I had when I first looked for quotes on the Nova with the XE (having not insured it before). Most were satisifed that my other car was the GT4.
I've owned my GT4 for getting on 8 years now. When I last browsed 'current' insurance prices for it, cheapest was £230 fully comp with business use.
Next job is to convince them I'd be Ok to drive american muscle lol
Ive got the nova on a limited mileage of 5000 p/a, second car policy with Sky, 5000 was the lowest i could get and i even wanted to remove commuting from the policy as that brings it down drastically, but they wont do it without that so i ended up with it anyways lol
In fairness seen as how i had some quotes before finishing it of over £1000 () to get it for fully comp for £500 i didnt think it was too bad, ive got both my cars with Sky, with all mods declared for less than £1000, which is far less than i some people i know are paying for just one car!
yeah but like,ya nearly a pensioner so should be paying pence.lol
Insurance is all about statistics.
Wrong, insurance is all about shafting the customer for as much money as possible lol
Its only like that due to "no win no fee" arseholes claiming 4 years off work and whiplash for someone opening a door onto theirs in tesco car park

Ive being with graham sykes for awhile now.All mods declared, business use as im self employed, unlimited milage ect.I pay 300 quid a year.Really good to deal with and the birds on the phone always sound fit.You also gain no claims too.
It doesnt help that a 5mph crash in a new car costs 5k to repaire these days.Plus all the ****ing asians/blacks ect making false claims for whiplash ect.

basil your a cont! lol
basil your a old cont! lol
:eek:lol
Been playing about with the admiral quote tool (ok they are dire but the tool is handy)
"purchase date" This year.... £660 Last year... £640 two years ago £600
Everything else the same lol
Admiral suck!
Multi car on my S3 and her 206 1.4 was 540 last year, this year it's over 600
To insure each car individual it's £121 for her 206 and £220 for my Audi WTF?!
Makes me want to cry, Oh and why the hell do companies class a corsa combo as a comercial vehicle when it's not used for business use? I have to take a seperate policy out on it!
I actually find Admiral/Elephant etc pretty good on my cars, had them a few times. Elephant were the ones that gave me a £230 quote on the GT4 lol
Multicar is donkey sack though. Thats the only thing I don't like about them, every time I have to call they try their hardest to sell it!
The multi car was excellent the first year i got it, but it's just went to crap now, each year it just kept going up.
I've been with admiral for about 6 years now but won't be using them again, they couldn't beat any of my other quotes this year,
So it's flux for the nova and kwik-fit for the 206, combined cost of £330 in total
Kat was getting quotes of 230-280 for the nova from regular insurance companies and I was getting 380-460 that why I went for the classic policy,
I don't think at my age that how long you've had the car effects the price tbh lol
The first two years of multicast was ace, cheaper to insure 3 cars than it was for the VX on its own lol, now it's just mental.
