I am considering going up in cc as the 1.4 won't give much more without serious cash thrown at it.

Will the 130 bhp 2.0 8v go in the place of a 1.4. How much needs changing?

The running gear just now,

F10 CR gearbox,
1.4 drive shafts
1.2 electronic ignition
4-1 exhaust manifold
1.6 head with inlet manifold
generic electronic fuel pump

Is any of this of any use with 2.0. 8v

Thanks for the link. The first one is mostly for the 16v. I thought the ohc 2.0 8v was the same looking as the 1.4? I have seen cavaliers with 1.8 fitted which looks the same as the 1.4 on the outside.

So I suppose then my next question is, what other blocks can be fitted without much modifications to car etc to give some gain inperformance with limited cost?

same as the 16V apart from its 8V

The most you can get away with now is a 1.6 with work done to the flywheel

Is the 1.6 going to give me much more than my modified 1.4 without money being thrown at it either?

nope, a well built 1.4 would be quicker than a 1.6 with a filter and exhaust, atleast till the national speed limit anyway

Ok, thanks, until I can save more pennies and have the courage to start, guess I am stuck with what i have!

stick with the tuned 1.4, you'd be gutted when you find you can't throw it around like you used to

Thanks for the advice

I was gonna say, if your gonna do the work to fit a 8v 2lt, you might as well fit the 2lt16v as you get better power for all the same work.

sounds like sense, I didn't think that the 8v was the same work as the 16v, so no point in the 8v.

just weld the diff up and go have have fun lol have you not tried playing about with diff and gear ratios if your using on a track

It is a pretty close box with 3rd and 4th being very close. It is fine on the bends, just the straights, even a 2.0 fiat coupe eventually got me after 5 laps, though he was very dissapointed to find out mine was a 1.4.

might get shot down for this but if your getting good corner speed try using a longer ratio cluster with a shorter diff ie 4.1 or 4.3 ( you`ll get good corner speed with a higher straight line speed ????????? any idea what diff your running now

It is the standard CR box of the 1.4SR carb.

I have been told before that a 4.5 final drive would make some difference, might try looking for one.

the std sr box is a wide ratio WR with a 4.1 diff....

the cluster from an f13cr, with the end gear swapped over so your diff will still work is a great box, & really easy to do, you don't even need to take the gearbox out...

a previous post reckoned you could fit a 1.6 by modding the flywheel... this is wrong, you need an f13 gearbox housing, and a 1600 flywheel & clutch.. put simply, the 1.6 flywheel is bigger & and the f10 housing is too small, you can't swap them, as the starter motor won't connect.

i'd say go for 1600 16v.

Sorry i thought it was an F13 gearbox
