Phase 3 started

2 weeks ago it started..... "Phase3" the engine conversion. we're fitting a 1.6 16 valver into "X", MBE management, TBs, overbore, steel H/gasket and lightened/balanced bottom end. Headwork as well of course with wasted valvestems and bronse guides :D should be nice and quick, I think. It took us a day to strip and clean the block and head but it was well worth it as you can see.

Yesterday it all went off for machining, just got to start buying all the other goodies now 8) Thanks to PhilM ( the fool in the rain) and Rob for helping out.

Phase 0.5 starts on mine on Saturday hopefully. :)

Fitting my modded head which includes

Enlarged and flowed ports,
Three angle valve seats,
Waisted valves and stems,
Shortened bronze valve guides,
Blanked off EGR port,
Piper fast road cam.

Should be fun, this will last me until the bottom end is replaced next year and twin 40 carbs are added.

techie why bother with twin 40's, when you can get throttlebodies for the 1.6 8v.

can get TB's for 1.6 for just over ?1k.
see your point though. You can get a valver in there for that!

i'm hopefully gettin a 1.6GSi engine to go in my 'baby beast' if the guy whose selling it holds on to it long enough so i can save up!!

hes done kent cams and got a induction kit (pipercross i think) and full janspeed exhaust for ?250.

gettin a bargain there!!

Fuel boost valve, around ?80-90 and does improve things.

Well they're doing all the work as I write this. The crank was BENT! but it's straightened now and reground. The bore have been taken out by 1mm and they will start balancing the bottom end in a day or so, we're waiting for the new clutch to turn up. Should have it all back be the beginning of the week.

Looks like theres quite a few of us doing engine mods over the next couple of months. Hopefully my engine will be out by the weekend and then the work can begin :)
