altenator belt probs on a c20let

im just wondering if its poss to cut and weld the chassis leg for the altenator while the engine is bolted in, has anyone done this? i have cut, boxed, and welded the chassis leg but it still seems to catch every now and then and twists the belt off, i think it must only just be catchin as its got few shiney marks were been rubbin. or is there any other way of doin any mods to stop it catchin, it only seems to catch when thrown hard into a left hand corner i think, i already have solid mounts so i dunno what else i could try or do. cheers

It is possible, Iv'e done it, but you'll need the inlet manifold off, then you have restricted room to work/cut/weld in, would be easier with the head off.

Put pics up of the alt.... Some of them can be tweaked to give you a bit more room....
