Id imagine its about as much as it usually costs to wreck an engine... £300-500

ok but why would it wreck the engine tho ?

get it up on a ramp before you buy it, they have a few common problems like rose joints on rear susp arms & leaky pipe from the fuel tank, sounds daft but check the number plate light screws as they corrode and are an absolute ****er to get out. what engine is it?

if its N/A there is literally no point in remapping it.

Vectra what B or C?

As Stuart says if it's a petrol 2.2 N/A a remap is a waste of time and money, however if it's the 2.2DTi diesel a remap will be fun.

I'd sooner cut off my own cock than remap a derv

I agree (you can cut your own off). While it looks great on paper (more BHP, better MPG) what it does to the running gear and engine internals far outweighs any positives.

pay nearly £500 to play roulette with a £1000-2000 fuel system, oh yes please can I do it twice lol

If its the Z22SE then supercharge it :)

This, as a remap will be a complete waste of time and money.

GM ones

The 'remaps' make the thing even thirstier than it already is.... be prepared to spend lots of time at the petrol pump!!! and yield you all of 5bhp MAX extra.
Its not a power making engine (saying that its got the power of an original std XE but the torque of a 200bhp throttle bodied one ;) )

ok cheers and all i know its a 2.2 150bhp one

See thats what i cant understand, twenty-odd years ago they were happily seieng 150bhp from a 2.0 engine, why is it the bigger capacity engines now, youre only just getting the same power from, surely it should be more like 260+ from a 2.2?

The 2.2 is a lazy engine, long stroke etc so very torquey but low on the power front. Plus emissions controls have gotten tighter hence the Xe dying off and being replaced with lower output variants. Even the die hard N/A guys have only managed to get 230-240 from a Z22SE with over priced TB's etc. For the same money they spent you could easily have a 250bhp XE and have cash left over for rebuilding it a few times.

so what us are saying the 2.2 is around the 200 bhp mark or it sould be ? i bought this one because some people say the 2.2 is the better one then the 2.0 ?

Stuart

No, read it again.

its got the POWER of a std 2.0 XE, BUT the TORQUE like that of a 200bhp XE. That dosent mean it 'goes like its got 200bhp' though. Its a lovely torquey cruisey engine that isnt as terrible on fuel as a V6.

Incidentally has it had its cam chain and tensioners changed? The 2.2's pre 2001/02 had issues with the small oil jet (my vx had that) which results eventially in the chain rattling or snapping :S
