its bolted back in, & does have the 6 outer threads for the later type cover... john h reckons its for later type individual coils.

the head & block holes line up, so surely it isn't a z16xe engine?? don't they have the later block design like the z18xe engine?

i was wondering if its off a daewoo ....... lol

If it's the same as the one that the rocker cover came off then it's a z16xe. The z16xe had a one piece coil pack.

Hi,

Had a look at pics in your wanted thread.

You need the cover shown in your first pic - this is an xel rocker cover. Found on 1.6 astras, vectras, etc. from about 2000.

I have recently changed to the same head on my rally motor (better flowing head) so have the older xe and newer xel heads and covers to compare.

Good news is that xel's are common in scrappy's so should be no issues with locating one.

The new xel cover bolts around the perimeter and between the cams whereas the xe bolts through the cam caps as you say. Remember also that the rocker gasket is different and not interchangeable between the xe/xel rocker covers - I found that out as well, lol.

Also, you can use the plug leads, coil, etc. from a xe as these will fit/work with the xel head - this is what I have done. The xel actually uses a single coil-on-plug pack for all 4 plugs and there are fixing holes in the xel head/cover for this that you simply don't use if using an xe coil pack and plug leads.

A bit long winded but difficult to put into words and i have never posted any pics on here before - should really learn how to do that, would save me time, lol.

Hope this helps.

David
