I want something with a 16v 4 cylinder engine to play with in terms of getting some electronics projects sorted (lambda cheaters, electronic throttle body adapters, Stuartsquirt etc) so something cheap and cheerful will do.

Thinking about a 1.2 corsa as it'll be buttons to buy and run in terms of insurance.
What's better to look for, a b or a c? Are all B's 16v or did some get the dire 8v spi lump?

Early b's are 8v

For the first couple of years the B's (at least 1.2 and 1.4) had 8V engines

Definitely SPI corsa's as that's where the little airbox comes from that people use to put cone filters on the end of.

A lot of the 16v 1.2 C's are the completely turd chain driven things, and vauxhall started loving EGR and complex inlets too, which is a recipe for disaster. I've seen a few 16v sports for less than £500, and surely that's gonna be a better proving ground for everything? I know roughly what you'd get out of a 1.6 with powerbox and exhaust etc etc, whereas if you told me you'd managed to get 90bhp out of the 1.2 16v I wouldn't know whether to be impressed or disappointed :p

Plus I'm sure you can find a beaten up/chavved up/barely MOT worthy one to suit your needs, especially if all the electronics is coming off anyway.

I'm not after power gains persay, it's more to prove out the ecu so othes can have a crack at it too.

So a late ish b would be the better option then..

1.2 16v's are from 97 onwards iirc, few hundred quid should pick up a fit one i would imagine.

If you take long enough I'll try one on mine lol

Although by then ECU's for a petrol engine will be ridiculously cheap anyway lol

Just sold a Corsa B sport. 1.4 16v for £450. Would have been ideal!

Ive being pretty suprised by the 1.6 in the estate i got from on here. Now the suspension is sorted and its wearing new toyo`s it flies for what it is.
Would be good to ditch the standard inlet and ecu and see how much of a difference it makes.

Some corsa c's had the belt driven 1.4 16v in (z14xe?) or I'd go for a c14se b :)
