View Full Version : Phone upgrade time - help! Suggestions?
Right guys, basically the missis decided to wash her phone by putting the through a 60degree washing cycle - needless the say its deaded :(
I'm well outta my contract, so thought i'd upgrade and give her my old one.
I'd love a HTC One X or S3, but really can't justify the money (£36) PM (I'm paying £20PM on T-Mobile for 300 mins/unlimited text & internetz)
I've looked on the normal network operator sites, and they are all the same (£36PM) - does anyone know/used any other sites where it might be cheaper? I know going direct isn't always the cheapest.

I got a Samsung Galaxy Nexus when it was fairly recently out, £100 cashback via Quidco made it a free phone and it costs something like £24 a month on O2. So something like that should be achievable for the S3 I'd have thought.

unlimited everything for £26 a month and £29 handset fee
iPhone 4s's will be pretty cheap in 3 weeks time :)

i used buymobilephones.net i have had 2 phones off there, my mom had one and my bro
offer free gifts if you dont want a top spec handset, but all in all really cheap
s3, 300 mins, 5000 texts and truly unlimited internet £28

Chris, what about the Htc One S? Its only a tiny bit down on the One X.. Very nice phone.

I love my iPhone (apart from the home button breakage!) not had much experience of Htc stuff. Guy at work has a 3 month old s3 and the case is wearing badly, and it's been back twice!
Chris there's a good comparison checker on money saving expert iirc.

The iPhone 5 will be out then, it gets revealed tomorrow I think
Correct, revealed tomorrow, should be in the sops 2-4 weeks later. Carly got a iPhone 4 on the release day of the 4s and got a great (ish) deal.
I'm going to go down the HTC ONE X route (unless Blackberry can release a BBX handset asap)

I've used buymobilephones.net before too and have nothing bad to say about them. I've gone down the free gift route with them (laptop) and the top phone at a low price route too. Looks like there's some decent deals on the phones your'e interested in as said above.

I switched from an Iphone to a HTC desire S. Love it. Deal i got is 24 months, £26pm (phone free) 100mins, 500 texts and 250MB of data. Thats on Vodafone.

The 5 is strongly rumoured to be revealed tomorrow and is strongly rumoured to be in the shops on the 21st.
I will be getting it on release day, got a 4 on release day so long overdue a new phone.

I'm a year behind doing my iPhone upgrade due to me giving the wife my upgrade, I still use a 3GS lol On a better note hers now also has run out and with her getting my phone a year ago I'm getting the 5 on release day... WIN :d

I have a galaxy s2, very good phone for the price you can get them for now,not too big either
I forsee problems with the iPhone 5, if the rumors are true, new charger conection point will piss lots of people off with docks etc, the screen is meant to be longer but not wider meaning all apps will need a update for the new layout
Saying that I'll get one lol not till there's a jailbreak out for it tho lol

Really? TBH i'd just go with Orange, they are the same compney now anyway. And sure its free on 30£ a month deals with orange.

That's not cheap tbh, I'm sure I've seen voda offering the one x (is not take the s if you paid me) for less.
The Samsung s3 is being chucked out for mid twenties in lots of places too as Samsung need to get units out before Apple are any gayer lol

Only do 24 month contracts tho. I'd never do a 24 month hit.

Any info on the BBX? I am due to replace my Torch in November. I am a big fan of the BB's utter reliability so looking to stay with them if they have something good around the corner
Only that they are pushed back to next year :(

Not quite, but close.
I can't see the recent bb's being any better than my old 9700 :( the alleged new ones will be decent though.
I have a Nokia 610 at the moment and it's a nice change but some stuff is sloooooow (and no better on the 800 and 900), ok for the £150 on payg though.
It looks like BB might get out of the hardware market and license the OS. They don't really have a sustainable business model as it stands, not that I'm bothered. Got one for work and it's all a bit meh.

bit of an oldish thread but i tried to buy the sony 'bond' phone today (xperia t, 02, upgrade) on skyfall release day.. Couldnt get a good deal. :-(
