Thought about making a post for this and decided why not? so here are a few pics of my nova when I picked it up.

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/2448/img2012082900355.jpg
Then I got it home
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/5613/img2012090100360.jpg

I'll get some more pics of it tomorrow once I've done some more work to it.

it only came with a pair of them, he brought two more off me yesturday :)

Amazing how even a set of SR steelies makes a car look better, nice car for starts... What's your plans for this little beastie?

millworm
09-09-12, 10:43 AM
As josh said it only had 2 sr Steels witch had different profile tyres on them so I had to put the normal steels on to drive it home as the car was wonky.

As for my plans I need to get the rust holes done and then start work on bike carbs after that who knows

millworm
09-09-12, 04:55 PM
I gave her a clean up today, I also fitted a grille I bought from josh the other day. I think it looks different, I've never seen a hatchback with one before.
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3788/img2012090900366.jpg
Then I set about making some repairs to the interior from parts I had lying around
http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/7711/img2012090900367.jpg
shame it had to be grey but it's better than it being broken

The white one not so much

nice car mate, do you live in a rough area?

MK999
23-09-12, 07:30 PM
The paint was so thick it was almost like someone had applied it with a brush

I can beat that, I sand blasted a new set of wheels for my BM (or tried to) it started 'melting' as I was blasting it and I could smell paint... It was on so thick, it was still wet underneath!! lol

millworm
23-09-12, 07:30 PM
not really but it's not being driven at the moment so it's sitting there 24/7

millworm
23-09-12, 07:32 PM
The paint job on it is real ghetto style there are drip marks on the other side of the rim :)

MK999
23-09-12, 07:33 PM
awesome! I dunno how they got it on mine so thick without it running tbh, bath of paint and dipped it in a few times maybe lol

millworm
23-09-12, 07:35 PM
lol, they probably used the leftovers of the fence paint to paint mine

turbojolt
23-09-12, 07:35 PM
might be worth taking the battery out if your really worried mate, you can bend them wheel locks off by hand!

you keeping it on the small bumpers? sr steels and small bumpers lowered a bit looks soooooooo nice and not over the top ;)

millworm
23-09-12, 07:38 PM
yeah might be an idea, as for mods yeah I'm keeping it on the sr steels lowered. Maybe a 3" exhaust so nothing over the top

mowgli
23-09-12, 08:18 PM
probably smoothrite.. that stuff is thick & claggy, and a sod to remove

I will, to be honest I don't see why more people don't go for an older car, you can get classic insurance witch means I'm paying half of what all my mates pay witch is great considering the prices of insurance these days.

i payed £8+vat for a 400ml can and didnt even use half that on mine and the silver was half a tin of halfrauds aluminum silver i had on my shelf and ive still go some left

It's crazy they wanted £12 for a 500ml can! And I cant't afford to spend much on the car at the moment so looks like the're back until I can afford to do otherwise.

chrisd1986
01-12-12, 10:59 PM
jesus!!!!!!!!! by the time i bought laquor aswell i spent £15 in total, i didnt realy have the dosh either but i wanted them on and i had to to it properly. dont halfrauds have any in stock?

millworm
01-12-12, 11:10 PM
No, I looked there I ended up getting the primer and satin black from there for £15 witch were both 500ml

millworm
03-01-13, 02:04 AM
Any idea what alloys your going for? I'm lucky the rust hasn't got much worse on mine to be honest. Should be road legal too soon so I'll be able to get more done then.

I done my van wheels satin black, I popped the tyre faces so after paint fill them with air and the beads pop back on. I sprayed them in my house too (not advised)

millworm
03-01-13, 11:06 PM
I had tyres on two of the wheels when I done em and I deflateded them and popped them off the bead, the other two were just wheels so they were easy so I fitted fresh tyres to the fronts when I was done

chrisd1986
03-01-13, 11:09 PM
Im not sure yet, ive just been scouring ebay atm but i want somthing different so im kinda drawn to renault turbines atm

millworm
03-01-13, 11:28 PM
Turbines look good and even better when your car is lowered, I've been looking at ats classics but my wallet don't agree with me, I had a pic of some wheels that I (poorly) photo shopped onto my car aswell, I don't know what they're called but I like em I'll see if i can find the pic

Soon as ive got a new daily and my nova is just a project (mainly because i can hide all the bits im buying for it as i keep t in a lockup when im not using it) im going to do big changes as the mrs dont like modded cars so im looking at a vec c diesel family wagon with 19"snowflakes

millworm
04-01-13, 01:05 AM
Nice, Don't they do irmscher bits and bobs for those? a grille and stuff look good with the snowflakes. plus technically the're not a mod.

chrisd1986
04-01-13, 01:11 AM

Right, so I haven't updated the thread in a while so here is all the work that has been done since last time.

I fitted my pressed metal plates.
http://imageshack.us/a/img825/4715/1002016j.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img824/8997/1002019k.jpg

also bought a K&N and fitted that too.
http://imageshack.us/a/img560/3807/1002015c.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img515/8599/1002008w.jpg
I had a stray breather hose so I drilled into the bottom of the filter and put it in
http://imageshack.us/a/img259/782/1002010n.jpg

I picked up a mint gear stick gaiter for £5! witch replace ebay piece of sh*t that was on there. Not the easiest job replacing it though, ended up taking out the gear stick but the piece of plastic at the top (the part that holds the knob on) just wouldn't come off like it said in the haynes manual.

out with the old

in with the new
http://imageshack.us/a/img838/2345/1002007r.jpg

I also found an imposter!
http://imageshack.us/a/img21/2879/1002012ka.jpg
looks like it's of a CVH.

another essential addition imo
http://imageshack.us/a/img35/4347/1002022dm.jpg

and last but not least I got these given to me at work so will probably getting put in when I get a new head unit.
http://imageshack.us/a/img541/6699/img2013030900468.jpg

Looks really good! Massive improvement!

Be careful with the pressed plates - a few have had issues with them. The font looks the later style too - 2001 onwards.

millworm
12-03-13, 02:08 PM
Thanks, I haven't had any grief with the plates yet but I still got the old ones should any trouble arise but I think the fuzz are a bit hotter on the ones with the German font that any other at the moment.

It's a fuel "vaporiser" that agedly helps to atomise your fuel using magnets to make you use less of it, piece of poo if you ask me, and will be coming straight off when I get a pipe to replace it with.

stick an in-line filter in its place, can get small see-thru ones from halfords for about £3 that are perfect

lol thats the same stereo ive got, its annoying, and every single setting needs changing from default, but it doesnt sound too bad, and like you say, better than the standard pants thing, i got fed up of listening to MW crackle from the vaux one. my head unit came out of a mates cavalier that set on fire lol

that button on the bottom right, bass-0-1-2... hold that down for 2 seconds to access the additional menu, then change everything to the opposite setting lol. took me a while to figure it out

i find it sounds pretty good if you leave the bass at zero, and drop the mid and treble as low as theyll go :thumb:
the radio, the cd, and the aux, all save different settings. so if your wondering why it sounds great on one, and crap on the other, you know why :)

millworm
15-03-13, 08:55 PM
I had a play with the stereo today and It's confused me lol too many buttons, I couldn't tune it into the station I wanted either as it kept auto searching but I got there in the end. good sound quality, much better than my old sony one. I'm going to go and have a look for one of those fuel filters tomorrow.

millworm
01-04-13, 11:56 PM
So I took the car into work on monday to do some work on her, I fitted an in-line fuel filter in between the pump and carb with seems to make her run a lot better I also found out that she's gonna need a new rad at some point as she has a very slight leak. I also found out why she'd been running so bad, it turned out my idea of drill a hole in the bottom of the K&N to house a breather pipe wasn't a good one as it was getting caught on the choke so it couldn't close fully so until i get a breather filter I've got a breather cable tied back to stop it from catching on the choke.

i think that rotor arms from a 1.4 ?

I wonder what the best way of sealing that drilled hole in the k&n ?
maybe rough the surfaces up with sandpaper and chemical metal a plate over the hole ?

or you could bolt a plate up to it, and use some silicone sealer

millworm
05-04-13, 10:53 PM
Yeah wrong rotor arm (I bought if from vauxhall and the told me it was the right one too) lol, but dizzy cap fits so I'm halfway there. As for sealing up the hole I'm trying to find a blanking plug or a grommet to put on but I might chemical metal it if I have to.
Anyway here are some pics

Right so I've not updated much recently, first off i passed my test so the nova is now my daily. I've done a few bits to her but due to £3400 insurance I've been a bit limited.

I fitted bonnet struts that I got from liam

This car looks better and better every time I see it, good work mate :P when I first got a Nova it was my second car the insurance was about £1600 I think for a 5 door 1.2 and I was 18, I am now 22 and have a GTE, the insurance is just over £600, I passed at 17 so I don't know if that's no claims or age but something to look forward to lol

The centre caps aren't an exact tight fit (no vauxhall ones are lol) but they don't have a massive gap either, are all the clips intact? or is the plastic warped? if they were on a car with sticky brakes they might have warped, had that on my fiesta

Central Locking is now in! since the last update I've also got a euro fog lamp and nova antibes clocks (which are broken  temp gauge don't work, most important gauge on an old car! ) I was also under the influence that they were 6 dials not four so I now have an oil pressure sender sitting around too. so I'm on the lookout for 6 dial mk1 clocks. anyway I'll let the pics do the rest of the talking.

Only pics of central locking I got

Got a few bits done the other night, was out working on her till 11 on Saturday and have spent all day today working on my mates motor (pony renault). I got my 4th set of clocks and finally i have some that work, sort of. I had to use the fuel gauge out of another set i'd bought as the gte ones kept going off the gauge, shame really as i''d have liked to have had a fuel light. Anyway i used gauge out of some early 4 dial clocks i had bought, i had to also modify the casing as there is no cut out for a resistor on the gte casing. I then had to install my oil pressure gauge for the clocks.

Located oil pressure switch
http://imageshack.us/a/img41/9360/73cu.jpg

Old switch out, always a good idea to look for the washer when taking things like these off as the tend to get stuck to whatever they're bolted onto.
http://imageshack.us/a/img853/5627/exlf.jpg

New oil preassure sender and conversion wire so i don't have to butcher the original wire
http://imageshack.us/a/img571/9012/ockg.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img30/1438/jvcl.JPG

Oil sender in, Jacked the cr up fairly high so i didn't get much oil coming out

http://imageshack.us/a/img19/1412/ifxi.jpg

Seeing as I updated the loon's thread it'd be rude not to do this one I guess

So after 2 painful years of driving around on lowering springs with clapped shocks I upgraded to some cheapo coilovers until I can afford gaz or avo's, really improved the ride and handles a lot better even though the tracking is out. just need to sort the rear out as it's grown upwards lol

yeah, there both round tooth cam pulleys as far as i remember.
the 1.4's cam has slightly higher lift, so best to keep that, altho it uses your nemesis, the pin drive hole.
youll need a 1.3 inlet to use the 2e carb, altho it will probably still run ok on the 1b

Looks easy fix to me don't just bash it though get someone to pull it out far better finish achieved if you do that as it's been pushed back so logic dictates you pull it forward or is that just me

if you have to do it yourself it is possable to pull it with ratchet straps but a bit of messing about needed for this to happen and someone to help also

I'd be looking for a front panel like you said and also get some primer on the damaged area as if in so many months you decide to do it the exposed steel will be rusty not the best start

Measure the gap in the aperture in the chassis area/inner wing above where the driveshaft passes from inside the wheel arch.

The aperture can close up in the event of an impact and is not always immediately obvious.

I had a similar issue and several helpful members assisted by providing the correct dimensions.
http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?186952-O-S-Front-Chassis-leg&highlight=

Otherwise you could replace your inner wing and be left wondering why nothing will line up correctly!
