Popped up to Loton Park hillclimb today for a nosey as its not far from me.

Even went up in my Nova which was a shock for it when I took its cover off & exposed it to some daylight for the first time in over a month!! :)

Only Nova there competing was this one, well I say it was a Nova was a bit of a loose statement as i only really recognised the throttle pedal & front scuttle & bulkhead!!

Quick chat to the guy running it & its a 1800 running I think he said a Sadev 6 speed sequntial box & it was a ex rallycross car.
This also I think he said belonged to his father.

ah darn, the inspirational mike turpin bowyer smallblock 1.8 was local and i missed it :-(
that was the car that lee303 saw competing in rallycross years ago, as you said, that let to him building his smallblock 1.8, that led me to do mine.. very loosely of course.
I think its mike turpins' son that owns it now?
True, not much 'nova' there but a great engine that bowyer 1.8.
Glad to hear you were out n about in yours.

Was nice to be out in mine yesterday.

According to the Loton Park entry list it was being driven by Mike & Stuart Turpin from Hereford.

yeah thats them lol. Martin originally uploaded a map off that car (with some alterations) to my ecu when i picked up my ecu from him.. Anyway, would still be good one day to see it in action, up close.

Nice to see the car being talked about. I can assure you I don't own it, but dad Mike does. He does not own the Escort that was next to us! Mike uses his VX220 predominantly for hillclimbing. It's not often the Nova gets an airing, mainly due to the class it has to run in but at events like yesterday, it's good to get out in it when we can both drive it. It's just a heap load of fun to drive and still very quick.

Nice to speak to you briefly yesterday Stuart.

Anymore pics or info on the car you can post up?

Sorry i got some facts wrong! :)

Built by Dave Pritchard over 20 years ago, it has been used extensively in Rallycross. Weighs 600kg, 1840cc Bowyer engine, Sadev 6 Speed sequential with flat shift and launch control. It's not much good as a hillclimb car as it has to run in the Sports Libre class. It was a brilliant rallycross car, easily one of the best front wheeled drive cars there was. If you type "Vauxhall Nova Hillclimb" into you tube, there are a couple of videos posted from Prescott.

I'm not on here really!! Was looking for some photos from yesterday and a link came up to this site. Saw some posts that I thought I might correct and help with! It has not really changed. Engine is about 7 years old now so needs a refresh and the sequential has been in about 3 years. It's up on stands now in the garage until next year. I'll try and have a few more goes in it if I can. If anyone has a photo of when it was on 2 wheels yesterday I'd love to see it as it felt a long way over when it was happening! The car is unique in it's build and brings many a smile when you drive it. It's nice to know that it still has a bit of a cult following!

Very impressive Nova, wasn't it at Autosport this year ?

It's too rough around the edges for Autosport!! It's seen daylight at 2 hillclimbs at Loton Park and one at Epynt this year. It will be out again next year doing some more Hillclimbs.

Oh right, there was something very similar there, must of been another rallycross Nova, similar back end and Sadev etc.

stuartt41

Not sure. I don't think any Nova's still compete in Rallycross. Alan Tapscott uses a RWD Corsa which might have a Sadev.

It was definitely a nova, possibly not a Rallycross one but was something a little different which yours is. Not sure who's stand it was on, I mainly remember the strange back end and floor it ran.

It might of been, didn't look much at a quick glance but after a good look round it there were all sorts of different modifications.
