is there some kind of tape, paste or washer needed when winding in brake lines to the master cylinder? as i cant see anything on the ends of the pipes or inside the cylinder to stop it leaking

would it not be better to run braided flexi hoses straight from the cylinder to the calipers?

if i done the above, what would be the best way to fix the hoses to the bulk head? some kind of clip with a self tapping screw?

I'm sure I'm going to have more questions regarding running these brake lines so any help would be great :thumb:

The unions are tapered.

You can run flexis from mc to calipers, but its expensive. Best of with copper imo.

Use original fixings or p clips & rivets.

You will be looking at about £5-7 per meter for the braided pipe and the fittings are around £5-15 each depending on what you need.

The fittings will be tapered or use compression to seal them at the joins so if done right shouldn't leak.

I personally prefer braided to copper as I can never get copper looking neat lol. P-Clips and rivets is the best way to secure them to the bodywork.

that dosnt sound completely out of my budget tbh, i dont mind spending a bit extra to get the brakes sorted right the first time round

what companys are good?

Budget £200-250ish for the brake system made entirely out of braided lines and new unions I guess?

RallyDesign are OK for that stuff.

I am going to go braided from the bias box (no servo) to the callipers/drums using p clips and rivets.

You going inside the car or outside?

i was thinking running them outside mate, is there any other benifit to running them indisde other then less risk of damage?

Paul

Braided lines trap dirt inbetween the braid and anymovement will then cause it to rub agsinst the rubber.

What about sheathed lines instead of metal braid? They wouldn't trap dirt?

I think it is just for protection

not good if you have just spent 200+ quid on them :/ maybe i should run them on the inside then, will have to do a bit more research before im 100% commited to the idea

what do you do then drill through the floor pan to get them to the back? and use rubber grommets to protect the hose from rubbing on the body work all the time?

You need to use proper bulkhead connectors to get them through the bulkhead and then back out the floor again for the rear brakes.

or you could fit copper ones inside the car...

This. Lacquer them an they will stay shiny new forever.

Also, P clips look shÃ*t, rivet on plastic saddles for the pro look :thumb:

Like the look of the plastic saddles, can you get different sizes and use them for internal fuel lines? Where do i buy them?

Come in loads of different sizes, but there for use between certain diameters. So say one will do 5mm to 10mm dia, another size will be 10~18mm etc etc. Youll need a bag of small wire ties aswell (the real short 100mm long ones). Attach anything you want to them. Industrial sparkies use them, i robbed tonnes off Mike Senior & used them all over my Got Bored Corsa for brake lines, fuel, wiring loom, engine loom, battery cables, nitrous controller looms etc etc.

eBay, hardware stores, electrical wholesalers etc etc. Bag of 50 will cost you about £4, come in white & black.

P clips are just tat IMO. If your gonna go to the trouble of internal brake/fuel/hydraulic/Nitrous lines etc atleast do it properly.

My brake line install looked epic once it was completed. Think it was down to the satin black metal work & copper lines mind. The hydraulic handbrake did look the tits though lol

Ha lol yea they were happy days. Ive built loads of cars, more so then posted on here. A Civic Turbo for a mate, a Civic 4x4 with an Impreza engine & running gear (mates on going project), a 205 Mi16 with/for a mate, couple of rally cars etc. Used to be big in to my pugs pre Novaload days.

Banded a few ideas around lately, ex police Interceptor Vectra VXR track car being one lol that would good giggles. Still hankering for an RX7 but would pap for a track day. Cosworth Transit, even though I sold my YB and a MT75 box about two years ago. Dunno, maybe again some time.
