hi all, iv been trying to have a read up on the internet about mpg on late c20xe engines and everyone seems to be getting around 30 to 40 mpg out of them where as mine seems to be only getting around 20-25 mpg, i worked this out from getting a full tank and resetting the tripometer and i only get around 200 miles to the full tank, i know xe's aren't the best on fuel anyway but this seems really low to me :s i have the eml wired in and it isn't on and the engine runs well just smokes a little bit when giving the car beans and on start up/ after the car has been idling for a while.
any help would be much appriciated.
thanks rep coming peoples ways :thumb:

When was the last time you gave it a full service i.e oil change, plugs and filter?

What gearbox are you running and are there any other mods to the engine, it could be the reason why fuel consumption is compromised... also how many miles has your engine covered?

Edit: do you run it on normal or super unleaded??

Speedo/mileage correct?

Depends on the journeys you do in it too. I get crap MPG out of my Celica as I mostly just do the short 5 minute trip to work in it, which is also usually in a bit of a hurry.

Fuel gauge right? How much can you get in on a fill up?

its a standard late c20xe no modifications to the engine just the ecotec pipe instead of an sfi box and im running an f16 box on it at the moment, i last changed all the plugs and leads and oil filter just before i got the car on the road in june so only 3 months ago, im unsure on the mileage the engine has covered i wasn't told when i bought the engine and i currently run it on just normal unleaded petrol, the speedo looks to be fine and the mileage along with it

you cant gauge it off the fuel gauge alone

thanks for the replys everyone, i seem to be getting 200 miles out of it on both motorway journeys and about town driving all granny style driving with a bit of putting my foot down now and again, when i filled up the other day i filled it from red to the brim and it cost £59 and i got around 42 litres for that then i reset the tripometer and got 205 miles roughly

You should be getting a lot more from a healthy xe, especially a coilpack one. My xe nova was probably the most economic petrol car ive owned lol

Something is not right, I got 38mpg from my c20xe corsa sport with full trim and 46mpg from my nova 20xe (stripped out)

I get around 38 mpg from my xe cav, late xe with no mods, f20 box, serviced regular

I've changed the lambda sensor now and it has gone a lot better I'm now getting 300 miles from a full tank which isn't to bad but I still would have thought it can get a little bit better

I could only ever get 29-30 out of mine when it was a late xe. Lets are way better on fuel. I can get 45 on a long trip now.

doesn't the F16 run a closer ratio?
