Kenwood D-mask

I bought one the other day, n tried to wire it up, i know that vauxhalls have a fucked up wiring system so i bought an IS0 block. In my nova there is already an ISO block so i just plugged it in to the unit wires but it wont work.So i cut all the wires off to wire the new IS0 block in but i cant figure out wire colours n its just a mess of wires now. Can ne1 help? im left with a:

red wire
black wire
fat brown wire
green and white wire

then the speaker wires

blue wire
brown n white etc

wit the new iso block the wires are

blue
orange
black
red
yellow

WHICH WIRES GO TO WHICH???

fat brown wire i recon is ur perminat live
red will probably be ur ingnition
black earth
have u got a mulit meter if so test 4 12 v at the brown shud be there all the time and the red shud be live when ur ignitions on
do a continuty test for ur earth use the bleeper settin on ur meter i tested mine by puttin 1 prob on the black the other 2 the earth on the battery

id be tempted 2 say red is perminat yellow is ignition and black is earth on the iso block the others cud be electric ariel other side lights so it dims the head unit when ur side lights r on another cud be telephone mute thingy

Assuming that the standard Vauxhall ISO plug was still as it left the factory then you should of been able to plug it straight into the Kenwood wiring harness and it would of worked, what it wouldn't of done would be remember the time, radio settings etc etc as the Nova (And other Vauxhalls of similar age) had the red and yellow wires the 'wrong' way round - I.E yellow constant +12v and red switched +12v, all you needed to do was unplu the yellow and red wires on the harness and switch 'em around.
So why didn't it work when you plugged it in? Is the stereo brand new? If not then maybe it's knackered. Did you press the 'secret button' on the back of the flipped front? I've got a Kenwood D-Mask+ and if the front is flipped round (closed) and you turn the ignition on it won't flip round until you press the 'secret button' - this should be explained in the manual.

I expect that you wired it correctly the first time (apart from the red/yellow wire thing) but didn't turn the stereo on, read the instructions and see what it says.

no it aint new i bought it off my mate andhe had it unlocked, it definately works, my mates got a mk1 nova n we had to wire an iso block into his n it works fine in his. my mates got a d mask in his escort so i swopped mine with his n it worked, i just dont understand the wires in mine ive neva sin a nova like em, i didnt even know they had iso block in em cos my mates didnt.ill have to get the voltmeter out ( neva had to use one b4 tho) cheerz for ya help

p.s my stereo is flipped on the actual digital panel so shud i get it flipped ova??? :roll:

So you tried it in your mates car and it worked and you tried your mates stereo in your car and it worked? Correct? If it is then I'm confused as hell!!!

no sorry mate i tried it basically in 2 different cars a nova n a escort. The ESCORT had the wiring for the actual d mask if u get wot i mean. The nova has a goodmans player in it. Ive gotta check for lives cos i mite of blown a fuse or summet. It was too hot 2day to b messin with it lol.

got it workin!! my mate did it, we managed 2 blow 5 fuses altogether lol but got there in the end, the wiring wos weird eg te thick brown wire was the earth???? :twisted:

Nope, definately not a piss take, Electrics are the bane of my life, give me a car to strip, an engine to rewire and no probs, show me some wires and I'll run sreaming to the hills. :D
