Hi was wondering what people use to seal under car

I'm buying a nova that has been sandblasted underneath and all nice but I'm wanting to give it extra protection

Any hints or pics. Would be great

Thanks

slap everything you can afford on, cos the iberian tin worm will be about & hungry...

I would avoid using the brush on underseal. I used pretty much a whole big tin of it on my Nova a few years back, but it makes working on the car a nightmare as the stuff never dries out and you get covered in it. It took a stupid number of hours for me to get it all off the car, its horrible stuff to deal with. The cavity waxoil spray that you can put in the box sections is good though, and well worth using. I sprayed the whole of the bottom of my car in stonechip, much nicer to work on the car now. The best thing then is to routinely check the underneath of the car looking for any areas which have been hit by stones or whatever and need touching up.

Strange as it sounds i mixed the brush on stuff with paint thinners as it was far too gloopy for my liking

I dunno the car is totally mint after a bare metal respray, underneath it had been blasted, etch primed, 2 coats of aluminium mastic then rubbed down and 2 coats of lacquer, the seller thinks that is good enough to protect it, I'm not using it in winter or in bad weather, this is gonna be my sunny/Sunday drive

Stonechip it and then overpaint with hammerite or even spray it the same colour as the car if its not already built up :thumb:

ok its not a nova, but you get the idea. spraying it on is defo the way to go! you can get in all nooks and cranys with ease

I see, Still, I'd try to find something in a spray form if you can. even though I was lucky enough to have the car stripped of engine/prop shaft, rear subframe all pipes etc and on a lift it was still enough of a job and still took some time to do! No way I'd want to try with a brush.
Best of luck chap

Waxoyl is bollox,as is stonechip, well certainly as an underbody protector on a bare shell anyway.
Waxoyl is for cavities, isides of doors and box sections, stonechip is for outer sills to paint over.
This stuff sets like polyurethene. No stones will penetrate this.

Look at 3M underbody sealants too.
