View Full Version : Reground camshaft, break in?
Simple question
Does a new or barely used reground C20XE camshaft need to be 'broken in'/'run in' before normal (ab)use? Or is it just a case of smash it in and away you go?
I've heard of this breaking in but don't know much about it.
Cheers

a few search's says to run the the engine at high idle(1800-2000rpm) for around 15-20mins,then to stop, cool down, check if all is ok then run the car pretty hard in low gears to bed the rings etc hope this helps......
there's chance of the lobes flatting out otherwise.......
im no expert mate just a little advice from the interweb ;)

Ideally it should be fitted along with new followers etc and then run in for 20 mins at 2000-2500rpm
Im pretty sure an oil change is then recommended afterwards
What's the reason for doing it though?!
I've read various running in stuff too but they seem to refer to running in brand new engines (as you say rings, checking coolant levels etc)

if its just a cam fitted to an already run in engine just give it beans from day one, no need to run it in as it should already be good to go

Bang them in and rag it! It'll be fine
ask the man who will be regrinding it to cover any warranty..
once heat hardened, it will take any amount of abuse
