Hi all...

Ripped my XE apart after finding no end of bodges and twisted wires from the previous owner. Anyhow, upon repairing the loom and putting it all back together with a select few new things im having a few issues.

Ive fitted an adjustable fuel reg with front gauge to show the fuel pressure and to adjust. The original one on my reg was a 3.0 bar reg, with 2.5 bar beiges...

However when cranking the engine, my fuel pressure goes up on the reg, but then drops back to .05-0 bar when left for a few mins.. Im guessing i have a leak somewhere, but i cant see anything from any pipes, or the top of the rail... Another issue i had prior to this was my car would run on 3 cylinders when started up for the first time, and puff a load of black smoke, which would then clear up and it would drive fine although on the idle it was lumpy as hell (on load fine)...

Im thinking that maybe i have an injector which is stuck open? Would that cause the above, filling a cylinder when parked, and giving me sh*t running on startup, and a naff idle?

Also does anyone know if i NEED to earth the 3 earth wires that are on the injector part of the XE at seperate sides, 2 on one side and the other on the left? Reason i ask is because the previous owner had twisted wires all over the place, and i thought it would be better to cut out the bodges, thus leaving the two earths at the right of the rail too short to reach this side, so ive ran them all to the same left point. My theory is that the rail would earth the two together anyway due to being made of conductive material... but i just want to make sure that this was ok?

Anyways as it stands the car cranks, theres fuel, but it wont fire up..

Im not bothered too much if theres an electrical issue, im just concerned about this fuel pressure problem... can anyone help?

Its a mk1 if it makes any difference, with no visible fuel leaks.

think this sh*te reg could be the problem of it not starting... seeing as its gone all funny inside within the last half hour.. guessing vapour is leaking internally..

Bin the reg- fit a std let one or a later xe one (3 bar)
Re the earths - it dioesnt make any difference, as long as they have a decent earth.
