my brother & his wife have 4 dogs, 2 border collies & 2 jack russels...
my sis in law does 2 daily walks, a short one with the russels & a long one across the fields with the collies.. being collies, they run like hell, leap thru things, play & have great fun..

so one evening the other week, i was fussing fly, the older collie & noticed a lump on the side of her ribcage.. it wasn't causing discomfort, and they took her to the vets thinking it was a cancerous growth...he had a poke about & decided to do an exploratory op.

what he found astounded them. 3 wild oat seeds

as you can see from the pic, they are barbed & had worked their way in thru the skin, and were in as far as her ribs..
so the poor doggy is under house arrest & has a large open wound on her side, and desperate measures have been taken to stop her getting at it...

Dogs and other animals for that matter can get things like seeds stuck in the paws/pads etc and they will move up under the skin all around the body.... Causing all sorts of issues....

Please correct me if i am wrong here though....

no, you are correct about them getting the skin between the pads, but they usually come out on the top of the foot.. we regularly check for them anyway
